Josh Hutcherson Reacts to Backlash Over Taylor Swift Comments

Don’t blame Josh Hutcherson for his honesty. 

He’s sticking to what he told his I Love LA co-star, Jordan Firstman, but wants Taylor Swift’s fans to understand he didn’t intend to cause any offense.

Josh recently shared with GQ magazine that he faced backlash after a photoshoot with Jordan. Jordan asked him if he was a Taylor Swift fan, and Josh said he wasn’t. This quickly led to a lot of angry reactions online, with people attacking him and making assumptions about his reasons, even claiming he disliked Taylor Swift because of his height.

Let me tell you, all the rumors about Liam Hemsworth hating Taylor Swift just because she’s taller than him are totally false! He doesn’t dislike her at all, honestly. He simply has different musical tastes and prefers to listen to other artists, that’s all.

“It’s just like, whoa! I think she’s great,” he said. “Her music is not my kind of music.”

Josh explained that the strong negative reaction to his harmless comment was exactly why he preferred to stay offline.

Josh Hutcherson’s recent issues started during an interview with i-D magazine in December. He and Jordan were playing a game where they scrolled through photos on their phones, and one of the prompts led Josh to show a picture of himself and his mother at a Taylor Swift Eras Tour concert.

Jordan asked Josh if he liked Taylor Swift. Josh responded with a firm ‘no,’ adding that he meant no disrespect, he just wasn’t a fan.

It didn’t take long for Taylor Swift’s fans to discover the video and express their disappointment with Josh. Many criticized him for accepting VIP tickets to the Eras Tour if he wasn’t a genuine fan of her music.

He told GQ that he deliberately stays offline and avoids social media for a couple of reasons. First, he wants to avoid potential negative reactions. Second, he believes constantly being available online would actually make him a worse actor.

Besides promoting his film I Love LA, Josh has generally avoided public attention and prefers to live a private life.

He explained that he prefers to keep his personal life private. He believes that becoming too well-known makes it harder to fully embody different characters because audiences will always see him as himself, not the role he’s playing. Essentially, he doesn’t want to be defined by a public persona or become famous for something other than his work.
