Jujutsu Kaisen Creator Reveals How Long Sequel Will Last (& It Will Disappoint Fans)

The popular manga series Jujutsu Kaisen, which concluded last December, has surprisingly made a comeback with a new sequel almost a year later! Its creator, Gege Akutami, recently shared updates with fans about the length of this continuation. Despite wrapping up its initial run in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, Jujutsu Kaisen remains active, having released some special epilogue chapters and now offering an official sequel to further the storyline.

The “Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo” is a follow-up series set years after the events of “Jujutsu Kaisen,” introducing a fresh wave of Jujutsu Sorcerers and a significant transformation within the franchise’s world. Renowned creator Akutami, returning to Shonen Jump, unveiled this unexpected sequel, hinting at a relatively short lifespan with only about six months’ worth of work and roughly three volumes before it concludes.

Jujutsu Kaisen Creator Reveals How Long Modulo Sequel Will Be

During the serialization of ‘Jujutsu Kaisen’, an idea for a spin-off series based on Jujutsu was proposed to me by another author. Initially, I turned it down as I was concerned about my work’s reputation being affected due to the nature of manga publishing, where control is not always easy to maintain. However, the proposition later allowed me to ponder various possibilities, such as delving deeper into parts of the main story, fine-tuning certain background details, altering the time period, or even crafting a parallel narrative.

Originally during the brainstorming sessions, Akutami conceived the concept for a spin-off titled “Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo“. This idea, quite unusually wild at its inception, was eventually brought to life following discussions during serialization meetings. However, fans may be disappointed to hear that the series is not set for a long run as the creator has mentioned, “It’s a concise, densely packed serialization, approximately six months’ worth of work (if it isn’t cancelled). Approximately three volumes in total.”

This paraphrased version aims to retain the original meaning while making the text more natural and easy to read.

What to Know for Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo

Given that Akutami has announced that the sequel, known as “Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo,” will run for approximately six months, it implies that the series might conclude with roughly 30-40 chapters. Gege Akutami is the writer, while Yuji Iwasaki, the creator of Cipher Academy, contributes to the artwork. Set at least seven decades after the conclusion of the Culling Game, “Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo” focuses on Yuta Okkotsu’s grandchildren who, as revealed in the epilogue chapters, have emerged as accomplished Jujutsu Sorcerers in their own right.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but be thrilled about the upcoming revelations in the sequel of Jujutsu Kaisen, promising to weave even more connections with the pivotal events of the original series. The debut chapter alone has already sent shockwaves through us fans, providing answers to questions that seemed unresolved following the conclusion of the original series. Meanwhile, the anime adaptation of Jujutsu Kaisen is gearing up for a triumphant return with Season 3 set to premiere in January – talk about a double dose of excitement!
