Just a heads-up – this contains spoilers for the Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo manga! I was really surprised to see Gege Akutami, the creator of Jujutsu Kaisen, return with a sequel so soon after the original ended. This time, they’re working with artist Yuji Iwasaki. The manga came out in September and immediately threw fans for a loop with a huge twist. Modulo takes place 68 years after the Culling Game, and follows the grandchildren of Yuta Okkotsu and Maki Zenin. The story introduces a massive new threat – over 50,000 aliens called Simurians arrive in Japan seeking refuge. The situation is incredibly serious; it’s been classified as a special grade threat, putting it on the same level as Ryomen Sukuna!
The Simurians arrived on the planet hoping to make it their home, particularly after discovering that some people in Japan possessed abilities like their own. The manga has become a worldwide hit, and at Jump Festa 2026 – a huge annual anime and manga event hosted by Shueisha – creator Akutami shared both the story behind Modulo and some unfortunate news about the series.
Jujutsu Kaisen Creator Confirms The Sequel Will Not Be Extended

From the start, the continuation of the series was planned to run for about six months in Weekly Shonen Jump with only three collected volumes. But because fans loved the manga and its popularity continued to grow, many hoped it would last longer. However, the author, Akutami, recently reaffirmed that Modulo will be a short series. It’s now focusing on two important fights and is officially heading towards its conclusion.
Both groups initially hoped to live together peacefully, but talks broke down when a sorcerer named Yakumaru accidentally killed a Simurian named Cross. From that point on, things quickly worsened, and it seems the series won’t continue for much longer. After the failed negotiations, Dabura, the Simurian leader, proposed a duel to resolve the conflict. The sorcerers wanted Yuji Itadori to fight, but couldn’t find him, so Yuka Okkotsu was chosen instead.
The future of the Jujutsu world is uncertain, and everyone knows Yuka is at a significant disadvantage against Dabura. Despite being ill, Yuka is fighting desperately to protect her world. Meanwhile, her brother, Tsurugi Okkotsu, is trying to save her by battling his friend Maru and attempting to drive Maru and the Simurians out of Japan before Yuka makes a final, self-sacrificing stand. The story, currently 16 chapters in, has progressed from introducing the Simurians to showcasing the full extent of their frightening abilities.
