Jujutsu Kaisen Creator Shares Groovy New Look at Its Best Duo

Gege Akutami, the creative mind behind Jujutsu Kaisen, has temporarily stepped away from starting new series, but he’s been quite active with stunning artwork pieces since the manga concluded. From coloring the Five Elders for the One Piece Card Game to a captivating illustration of Mereleona Vermillion for Black Clover’s 10th anniversary, fans are consistently impressed by Akutami’s artistic skills. During JJK’s serialization and shortly after its conclusion, Akutami was dealing with health issues, but he’s making a strong recovery. The beloved Hidden Inventory/Premature Death arc of Jujutsu Kaisen is being transformed into its fourth stage play, set to run in Tokyo from August 22-31, 2025, and in Osaka from September 5-7, 2025.

The creator personally designed a unique image featuring Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto to publicize the production. These two powerful sorcerers, often referred to as “the strongest duo,” are pivotal figures in the flashback storyline. This narrative explores their high school days and the heartrending events that caused them to part ways. In the latest artwork by Akutami, we catch a glimpse of these characters in stylish attire, a look not previously depicted in the comic series. Given their teenage personas, the fashionable outfits seem particularly fitting.

Although the manga has concluded with its final volumes, the anime is yet to adapt the last two story arcs, with Season 3 being announced in December 2023 following the end of Season 2. Despite this announcement taking place nearly a year ago, only one official visual for the series was released at Jump Festa in December 2024. With eager fans waiting for more updates on the upcoming season, the studio has been primarily promoting the compilation film, “Jujutsu Kaisen: Hidden Inventory/Premature Death – The Movie.” This movie debuted in Japan on May 30th, 2025, and had its U.S. premiere in cinemas on July 16th, 2025.

The animated series is marking its fifth anniversary on August 31st, 2025, with five significant franchise updates scheduled. While details about some of these updates, particularly those concerning Season 3, are yet to be revealed, it’s known that Season 3 will delve into the Culling Game Arc – a battle royale orchestrated by Kenjaku featuring numerous sorcerers.

Leading up to this battle royale, the manga will center on the aftermath of the Shibuya Incident Arc. If the anime adheres to the manga’s narrative flow, it will first adapt Itadori’s Extermination and Perfect Preparation Arcs before proceeding with the Culling Game storyline.

In the upcoming Season 3, these story arcs will shed light on Yuta Okkotsu’s motives following his unexpected return to Japan. He gained fame in the prequel film, and now that he’s debuting in the main story, he has already set his sights on the series’ lead character. The explanations for his actions will be unveiled in Season 3. Spanning approximately 22 chapters, these arcs will be fully explored across the first few episodes. Given that the Culling Game arc consists of a whopping 63 chapters (the longest arc in JJK), we can anticipate another season with around 24-26 episodes.
