He straight-up says he sees himself as just a piece of a larger plan, a ‘cog’ in the machine, and he’s okay with that! It’s such a surprisingly relatable take, seeing a hero admit he’s not the one driving the story, and I think that’s why so many fans connect with him.

The story suggests that you don’t need to be the main character, but rather understand your part and play it well. It’s great to see Yuji, in a typical shonen anime fashion, endure hardship to prove his point and convince someone of his beliefs – a truly exciting and heroic moment.
