Jujutsu Kaisen Finally Unveils Who the Narrator Is

The long-awaited Season 3 of Jujutsu Kaisen is scheduled to premiere in January of next year as part of the Winter 2026 anime season. Before the full season arrives, MAPPA is releasing a special movie, Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution, which will recap the events of the Shibuya Incident Arc and include the first two episodes of Season 3. While fans are excited for the intense Culling Game Arc, the anime will begin by adapting the Extermination and Perfect Preparation Arcs, focusing on Itadori’s journey. Season 3 will also introduce new characters, including Master Tengen, who is already known to fans of the manga.

I was surprised to learn that Yoshiko Sakakibara, who narrated the Shibuya Incident Arc in season two, will be voicing a new character coming in the next season! The news started spreading on social media after the movie premiered in Japan on November 7th, and a well-known Jujutsu Kaisen account, @Go_Jover, confirmed it. It seems like MAPPA intentionally chose her, but it’s going to be interesting – and potentially confusing – because the English dub will give this character a male voice, with Kirk Thornton handling the narration. Interestingly, the series and the prequel movie didn’t have a narrator at all initially; the creator, Gege Akutami, requested that. But as the techniques in the series became more complicated, they decided a narrator was necessary.

Who Is Master Tengen in Jujutsu Kaisen?

Master Tengen is a powerful, immortal Jujutsu sorcerer who lives within the Tombs of the Star Corridor. They protect all Jujutsu High schools by maintaining magical barriers. Once a woman, Tengen became immortal and transcended gender after their body began to fail. To continue living, Tengen requires a ‘Star Plasma Vessel’ – a girl born every few centuries who merges with them to renew their immortality.

Although Tengen isn’t shown much throughout the series, they are essential to protecting the world of Jujutsu, which is in crisis after the devastating events in Shibuya. The character even had a major impact on a previous storyline without ever being seen. Now, with everything falling apart and Satoru Gojo unexpectedly playing into the villains’ plans, the powerful sorcerer Yuki Tsukumo must find Tengen and ask for their assistance.

The sorcerer is allied with other sorcerers and will assist them in finding a way to release Satoru Gojo by offering clues. While the manga never explicitly identifies Tengen as the narrator, the anime studio MAPPA may have intentionally used the same voice actor to emphasize Tengen’s important, foundational role within the world of Jujutsu Sorcery.
