The third season of Jujutsu Kaisen concluded with a thrilling finale, and included a subtle change to the character of Sukuna compared to the original manga. As the season wrapped up alongside other Winter 2026 anime releases, Yuta Okkotsu faced incredibly strong opponents in the Sendai Colony. The ending also hinted at even more challenging battles ahead.
In the latest episode of Jujutsu Kaisen: The Culling Game Part 1, Yuta worries about future battles after his fights in Sendai Colony, with Takako Uro hinting at even stronger opponents ahead. The episode finally revealed Sukuna’s true form from the Heian era, though the moment was brief. Notably, Sukuna is depicted without the staff he carried in the original manga, a detail that was seemingly removed from this version of the image.
Jujutsu Kaisen Anime Removes Sukuna’s Staff From Season 3

The latest episode of Jujutsu Kaisen: The Culling Game Part 1 covers the beginning of chapter 181 of the original manga. In this chapter, Sukuna is shown holding a staff – the same one he’s been depicted with in artwork throughout the series, including on the cover of chapter 117. Interestingly, despite being featured prominently in promotional images and this early scene, the staff doesn’t end up being important later in the story.
The anime likely removed the subtle hint about Sukuna’s future to avoid confusing fans. Sukuna is a major player in the story’s final chapters after the Culling Game, and the creators probably wanted to simplify his appearances. They did this to prevent viewers from wondering why a specific item, shown in the original manga, never appears. The reference was so brief in the anime, however, that many fans may not have even noticed it was missing.
What’s Next for Sukuna in Jujutsu Kaisen?
Good news for fans! Sukuna and all the current fighters will be back in the newly confirmed fourth season of Jujutsu Kaisen. Season 4 will adapt the second phase of the Culling Game. While a release date hasn’t been announced yet, the season will continue the intense tournament with many exciting battles ahead.
Now that Yuta has established himself among the top fighters in Sendai, the new season will also showcase other characters as they compete in their first tournament matches. While Yuji and Megumi have already proven themselves, many fighters are just beginning their journeys.
