New chapters of the Jujutsu Kaisen sequel have been released weekly in Weekly Shonen Jump, and the most recent one revealed a disappointing fate for Yuji Itadori – he didn’t get the happy ending fans hoped for after the original series concluded. Jujutsu Kaisen finished its initial run last year, but creator Gege Akutami unexpectedly returned with a sequel set decades later. This new story follows a fresh group of young sorcerers, and it’s hinted that Yuji is now a legendary figure after his battle with Sukuna.
I’m absolutely blown away by the latest updates on Yuji from Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo! We always knew Yuji was a legend, but this takes it to a whole new level. It’s already incredible that he’s still fighting Cursed Spirits eighty years after the Sukuna battle, but now we find out he hasn’t aged a day since the end! Can you imagine watching all your friends grow old and pass away while you stay the same? It’s heartbreaking and amazing all at once.
Jujutsu Kaisen Refuses to Let Yuji Die

In Chapter 13 of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, Japan’s sorcerers are searching for Yuji, hoping he’ll fight a strong Simurian. However, he’s disappeared. Nobara Kugisaki shares that Yuji hasn’t aged since the original story, and he’s stopped attending funerals for his friends because he’s exhausted from constantly losing people. This highlights Yuji’s own inability to find peace, and his failure to achieve the peaceful, loving death his grandfather wished for him.
Throughout the Jujutsu Kaisen series, Yuji constantly faced danger, accepting it because he believed his death would be worthwhile if he could prove himself as a sorcerer. Even years after his major victory, he hasn’t found the peace he was searching for. This is particularly disappointing for fans who hoped to see him achieve a happy ending.
What Does This Mean for Yuji?
Although the original Jujutsu Kaisen didn’t give Yuji a happy conclusion, the sequel, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, seems to be setting up another chance for him to find one. He’s appeared as a spirit-like presence, suggesting he’ll play a significant role before the story finishes. Given how important he’s become to the narrative, his return feels inevitable, and it might finally bring about the fate he’s been longing for.
While it always seemed unlikely that the main character of Jujutsu Kaisen would die, this new series feels different. Yuji now plays a supporting role, similar to Gojo Satoru, meaning his death wouldn’t drastically change the story’s direction. This could be the perfect opportunity to give Yuji the happy ending he deserves, and fans are hoping that’s what happens.
