Jujutsu Kaisen Sequel Teases a Tragic Ending & Fans Won’t Be Ready For It

Please be aware that this article contains spoilers from the *Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo* manga! The recently released sequel to *Jujutsu Kaisen* has surprised fans with a major revelation about a key character. Created by the original author Gege Akutami with art by Yuji Iwasaki, *Modulo* takes place in the year 2086, following the grandchildren of Yuta Okkotsu and Maki Zenin. They encounter Maru, a Simurian (an alien being with powers similar to Jujutsu sorcerers) who is secretly working among them. The story is set 68 years after the Culling Game, a period of relative peace, until 50,000 Simurians arrive on Earth seeking refuge.

Sorcerers are racing against time to prevent an upcoming war. Yuka and Tsuguri team up with Maru, facing off against powerful curse users who remain active. Even with Ryomen Sukuna and Kenjaku defeated, curses still plague the world, and some individuals seek to exploit them for destructive purposes. The story continues, revealing a heartbreaking destiny for Yuka Okkotsu.

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Reveals Yuka’s Illness and Teases a Tragic Ending

Iwasaki posted a beautiful image on X (formerly Twitter) showing Yuka crossing a river, possibly suggesting her death and journey to the afterlife. Meanwhile, in the latest manga chapter, Cross pretends to be the comatose Maru, hoping to trick Yuka and Tsurugi. They go along with it at first, but Yuka eventually tells him the truth, suspecting Tsurugi has already figured out the deception. Cross openly admits his hatred for humans due to their past actions against his people, the Simurians, though he doesn’t explain the details of the war.

The following day, Yuka unexpectedly asks Cross to accompany her to a doctor’s appointment, leaving him puzzled about what was wrong. She then reveals the heartbreaking news: she has a brain tumor and has been given only six months to live. In the world of *Jujutsu Kaisen*, the only known way to heal from such a condition is through a special ability called the Reverse Cursed Technique, which is available to those with cursed energy.

I’ve learned that Reverse Cursed Technique can mend injuries and even regrow lost limbs, but it can’t cure truly deadly diseases like cancer. She was trying to get Cross to realize that while she’s stuck with her own destiny, he still has the power to shape his future—without having to take from others, the way things were taken from him. He seems pretty set in his ways, but I think Yuka is starting to get through to him; I can see his resolve softening.

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo May Have Foreshadowed Yuka’s Death Already

While Chapter 7 clearly shows the tragic future facing Yuka, the series hinted at it much earlier. From the very first chapter, there were clues, like Maki noticing Tsurugi’s resemblance to her and predicting he’d gain strength through loss – mirroring her own experience after her sister Mai died. This suggests Tsurugi might lose his sister and unlock hidden power. Like Maki, Tsurugi has a unique physical trait that limits his abilities, but he differs from her by possessing a small amount of cursed energy, which he uses for techniques like Simple Domain.

Maki couldn’t perceive curses until her powers developed. Tsurugi and his grandmother are very alike, and now they both face the painful experience of losing someone they love. However, Tsurugi is unaware of his sister Yuka’s illness, as she’s keeping it a secret to avoid sympathy. Tsurugi still treasures the ring their grandfather, Yuta, gave them.

He dreams of becoming powerful enough to repay her kindness, proving to everyone he doesn’t need protection. Unfortunately, he’s running out of time. The new short series, *Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo*, is scheduled to last about six months – the same amount of time Yuka has left to live. While her fate isn’t completely sealed, her survival would require a miracle, as the story hasn’t shown any way for her to be saved.
