MAPPA studio has been incredibly productive this year, finishing the third season of Jujutsu Kaisen and the second season of Hell’s Paradise to great success. They recently surprised fans by releasing a second season of Dorohedoro on Netflix. On top of continuing the Chainsaw Man story after the movie’s popularity, MAPPA is now working on a new anime based on a popular video game. Hoyoverse, a gaming company known for its anime-inspired style, has partnered with one of the most renowned anime studios.
Released in 2023, Honkai: Star Rail has quickly become a major hit for game developer Hoyoverse. This role-playing game, featuring a ‘gacha’ system, tells a story of interstellar travel, letting players explore numerous planets and meet a wide variety of characters. Recently, a new trailer for a segment of the game called “Death in The Afternoon” was revealed, showcasing animation by the studio MAPPA. While it’s currently unknown if this is part of a larger project, it could signal the start of an exciting new direction for the Honkai: Star Rail universe. You can watch the trailer below.
The Hoyoverse’s Anime Future
Although an anime adaptation of Honkai: Star Rail hasn’t been announced, Hoyoverse’s Genshin Impact is definitely getting one. The project will be handled by Ufotable, the renowned animation studio behind Demon Slayer. While a release date hasn’t been set, Ufotable recently shared that development is going smoothly and on track, with no major problems.
Ufotable, the studio behind the record-breaking anime film Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, is now working on a three-part finale to the popular Demon Slayer story. While details about the next two movies are still unknown, they have the potential to surpass the success of the first. Even as Demon Slayer nears its conclusion, it will undoubtedly remain a landmark anime series. With this series winding down, Ufotable might find a secure future by turning its attention to the Hoyoverse, given the massive popularity of Genshin Impact and other games from that brand.
