This year, fans of Jujutsu Kaisen were thrilled to see a popular story arc – the Hidden Inventory/Premature Death Arc (also known as Gojo’s Past) – brought to the big screen in a compilation film. This arc, which originally aired as the first five episodes of Season 2, is a fan favorite, taking viewers back 12 years to see Satoru Gojo as a high school student. The film shows the tragic events that shaped him and his determination to change the world of Jujutsu sorcery. After a successful release in Japan, the film is now becoming available for rental and download on streaming platforms like Prime Video, Niconico Channel, and DMM TV, starting December 17th, 2025 (release dates may vary). Currently, this availability is limited to viewers in Japan. However, because the film includes new content not seen in Season 2, there’s hope that fans worldwide will get a chance to watch it too, especially with the excitement building for Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution and Season 3.
Jujutsu Kaisen’s Gojo’s Past Arc Will Always Be Loved Among Fans
Jujutsu Kaisen is known for its intense, fast-paced action, but this sometimes means less focus on character relationships and lighter moments. The recent arc about Gojo’s past is different – it prioritizes showing how characters develop and grow, rather than just delivering exciting fights. Gojo is a hugely popular character, and fans are always eager to see him, so an arc exploring his youth – and the challenges he faced even as the strongest sorcerer – was particularly appealing.
The prequel movie, Jujutsu Kaisen 0, showed the friendship and eventual split between Gojo and Suguru Geto, but the reasons behind it weren’t fully explored until later flashbacks in the series. Their relationship is a fan favorite, tracing their happy youth to the tragic events that ultimately destroyed their lives. While appearing bright and cheerful, this story arc reveals the harsh realities of the jujutsu world and the crushing weight it places on young sorcerers.
The anime adaptation beautifully enhanced the story with carefully crafted details in its visual planning, bringing the characters’ complexities to life. The second season boasts particularly stunning animation, making this story arc incredibly engaging. And the film takes the visual quality even further – as you’d expect from a theatrical release – exceeding the already high standard of the TV anime.
