The new film Predator: Badlands is currently the top movie in North American theaters, drawing audiences with its focus on the Yautja. Meanwhile, in Japan, the anime film Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution has unexpectedly overtaken Dek’s popularity. While Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution continues an existing storyline within the Jujutsu Kaisen universe, fans are eager to see Yuji Itadori return. Although North American anime fans will have to wait until next month to see the Shibuya Incident Arc and the Culling Game in theaters, early numbers suggest Studio MAPPA may have another hit on their hands.
Over the weekend of November 7th to 9th, Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution was the highest-grossing film, earning $4.15 million. Predator: Badlands had a weaker opening in Japan, bringing in just over $1.6 million, indicating it has ground to cover to compete with the popular Jujutsu Kaisen series. Interestingly, Predator was also outperformed by Bakudan, a live-action Japanese film that managed to climb the charts despite not being an anime.
MAPPA’s Time at The Movies

2025 has been a fantastic year for anime films, and while Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle has dominated the box office, other movies have also found success. Chainsaw Man The Movie: The Reze Arc, released earlier this year, continued the story of Denji and his fellow devil hunters as they battled the Bomb Devil. The film was a hit, earning over $150 million worldwide and easily recouping its production costs. While Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution likely won’t match the financial performance of Demon Slayer or Chainsaw Man, it has a strong chance of topping the box office charts when it’s released next month.
The new movie, Execution, combines key events from the Shibuya Incident Arc and the upcoming Culling Game storylines of the Jujutsu Kaisen anime. It will premiere in North America on December 5th and includes the first two episodes of the anime’s third season, which starts airing in January. Despite being a compilation film, early reviews from Japan have been very positive, suggesting fans are excited about the continuation of Jujutsu Kaisen.
The last time we saw Yuji Itadori, his life had drastically changed. After Sukuna awakened and caused immense destruction in Shibuya, Yuji’s school decided he must be executed. Sadly for Yuji, Yuta Okkotsu – a character from Jujutsu Kaisen 0 – has been chosen to carry out the sentence. Now, Yuji is on the run, pursued by both those who would consider him a hero and those who see him as a villain, and he’s facing a very difficult situation.
