Fans of Jujutsu Kaisen were surprised and delighted last fall when a sequel manga was released just a year after the original story ended. Written by Gege Akutami and illustrated by Yuji Iwasaki, the new story followed a fresh set of characters. Published in Weekly Shonen Jump for six months, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo concluded in March. Given how popular the original series was, it’s no surprise the sequel was also a success. The short series, which consists of 25 chapters and is now complete in Japan, is already getting an English release, and fans didn’t have to wait long to find out when they could expect it.
Viz Media recently revealed its Spring 2027 anime and manga plans, and fans are especially excited about the English language release of a highly anticipated sequel manga. The first of three volumes will be available soon, though the exact release date is still to come – Viz Media promises an update before the end of the year. Pre-orders for both physical and digital copies will open several weeks before the release. The remaining two volumes are planned for release next year.
What Is Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo About?

The story is set in 2086, almost seven decades after a devastating event called the Culling Game drastically altered the world of Jujutsu. Despite the defeat of Ryomen Sukuna and Kenjaku, peace remains elusive as cursed spirits and sorcerers still pose a threat. Interestingly, the abilities of Jujutsu sorcerers share surprising similarities with those of the Simurians, an alien race.
Aliens are aware of the special abilities present in Japan, and 50,000 have arrived seeking refuge. The story centers on one alien, Maru (whose full name is Marulu Val Vol Yelvori), and the grandchildren of Yuta Okkotsu and Maki Zenin, characters previously seen in a brief epilogue. The series explores the challenges of humans and aliens living together and how this impacts the world.
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo‘s Anime Is All But Guaranteed

When the last volume of Modulo comes out in May 2026, MAPPA plans to release a special animated trailer featuring key moments from the manga. Having produced the series since season one, MAPPA is likely to animate the next part of the story too – though it could be some time before it arrives, as the anime hasn’t finished adapting the main storyline yet.
Season 4 of the anime will conclude the Culling Game arc, and then the series will move into the final showdown with Ryomen Sukuna. Because Jujutsu Kaisen is so popular, MAPPA is making it a priority, meaning we likely won’t have to wait long for an anime adaptation of Modulo after the main story finishes. In the meantime, you can read the manga now on Manga Plus and the Viz Media website while waiting for its official English release.
