The PlayStation 4’s sales record during its initial release in the U.S. has been surpassed by the Nintendo Switch, with a staggering 1.6 million units sold compared to the PS4’s 1.1 million. This was anticipated given the massive popularity of the Switch.
Back in 2020, the PS5 might have achieved comparable sales figures, but it faced challenges due to the ongoing pandemic. This led to significant limitations in its production and distribution for multiple years.
It’s no shock that the PS5 didn’t claim the title of best-selling console in June; it’s a position it’s held for quite some time. We anticipate that as the Switch 2 finds its footing, there may be a continuous swap between these two consoles for the near future.
The PlayStation 5 currently holds the title for being the top-selling console in terms of both unit and dollar sales, but it’s likely that the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 will surpass it as we progress further into this year.
Regarding game sales, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach ranked second during its first month (covering both physical and digital sales), which is an impressive achievement considering this period only spanned approximately ten days. However, it’s important to note that it didn’t manage to enter the top 20 for the year up until now.
Following its PC launch, Stellar Blade made a remarkable ascent, leaping over 180 spots and landing in fifth place among top sellers.
Indeed, the release of the Switch 2 made this month particularly significant for the industry, providing a substantial boost that was undeniably welcome. Interestingly, consumer spending hit an unprecedented peak in June, with hardware revenue soaring by a staggering 249% compared to the same period last year, primarily due to the new product launch.
