The team at Kwalee Labs, who recently launched the game Luna Abyss, has unfortunately been laid off.
Although the team of nine people recently released a game to positive reviews and strong player reception, they have all unexpectedly lost their jobs.
Kwalee Labs CEO Hollie Emery announced the news on LinkedIn, sharing an unfortunate update.
So, I just found out some really rough news – the whole team got laid off yesterday, totally out of the blue. It wasn’t our decision at all. The good news, if there is any, is that we’re all available to work starting today, so if anyone’s hiring, hit us up!
We’re thrilled with the amazing support Luna Abyss has received from both the gaming community and the press. Creating it wasn’t easy, but it’s been the most rewarding experience of our careers, and we’re so proud it’s finally out! Thank you to everyone who believed in us and helped make it happen.
Luna Abyss is a fast-paced sci-fi shooter where you’ll dodge tons of bullets while also doing some platforming. Reviewers at our site really enjoyed it, scoring it an 8 out of 10 and highlighting its rewarding sense of progress and overall fun.
I’m really bummed to hear about the layoffs, especially since they just released such a fantastic game so recently. It feels incredibly unfair that something good wasn’t enough to keep everyone employed.
Sadly, it seems the industry is far from done with layoffs; reports have been coming in from various places that Xbox, and potentially other large publishers, will be making sweeping redundancies in the near future.
