Justin Bieber Posts Cryptic Message on “Toxic Thoughts”

Justin Bieber is giving fans a glimpse at his fall reading list.

The singer known for “Never Say Never” posted several pages from the self-help book Bad Thoughts: A Preacher and a Shrink’s Guide to Reclaiming Your Mind and Soul to social media, sharing it with his many followers. The book was written by Judah Smith and Leslie Parrott.

On September 29th, in an Instagram post, the 31-year-old-father to Jack Blues Bieber, who is 13 months old, with his wife Hailey Bieber-shared a section from a text about “toxic thoughts.” These thoughts were broken down into five types: feeling unworthy, being overly needy, feeling insecure, acting entitled, and believing you are unlovable. The last image in the post included a quote from psychologist William James, stating, “Man can alter his life by altering his thinking.”

Earlier today, Justin-whose former partner Selena Gomez married his previous co-worker Benny Blanco on September 27th-shared that he was looking forward to reading the book.

You know, I’m not always one for cracking open a book – I’ll admit it! But I recently came across this title, and the author, Judah, has a way of really pulling you in. Honestly, just looking at the cover, I have a feeling it’s going to be super helpful and really easy to understand. I’m actually excited to dive in!

It looks like Justin is prioritizing personal growth as he prepares to headline Coachella 2026 with Sabrina Carpenter and Karol G. He recently checked out the festival grounds in Indio, California, wearing a shirt that said “Pray For Me”-and his mother, Patti Mallette, immediately responded by sharing a prayer for him.

On September 22, she posted on Instagram, writing, “I speak freedom, strength, clarity, and healing into your life, Justin.” She continued, “May every bond of fear, confusion, sadness, and pain be broken through the power of Jesus. Holy Spirit, please envelop him in TRUTH, LIGHT, and PROTECTION.”

The 50-year-old also expressed her hope that Justin would ignore his critics as he gets ready to perform again on stage.

Patti went on, saying, “Quiet all the influences that aren’t from God,” and then added, “and allow his life to powerfully demonstrate God’s strength, kindness, and restorative grace.”

Ahead of Justin’s Coachella set, read on for a look at his career milestones thus far…

In 2011, when Justin Bieber released Under the Mistletoe-his first holiday and second studio album-he quickly became a favorite. The album immediately topped the Billboard 200 chart, becoming the first Christmas album by a male artist to ever reach the No. 1 spot. It later earned a Double Platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America, signifying sales of more than 2 million copies.

I remember back in early 2013 when Lady Gaga was the queen of Twitter, but then Justin Bieber actually took the lead! It didn’t last *too* long, as Katy Perry quickly gained more followers, but he always managed to come back strong. Even now, he’s still the most-followed musician on Twitter – pretty amazing, right? Though he’s now fifth most followed person overall, he’s still a huge force on the platform!

With concert movies being so popular around 2010, it wasn’t surprising when Bieber got his own. When Justin Bieber: Never Say Never came out in 2011, it was a huge success, breaking records for the biggest opening weekend ever for a documentary. The film made $73 million in the United States and remained the highest-grossing concert film until Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour surpassed it in 2023.

In 2013, the RIAA announced that Justin Bieber’s hit song “Baby,” from his 2010 album My World 2.0, had achieved the highest certification of any single ever, at 12x Platinum. This was partly due to the then-new practice of counting streams, which allowed it to surpass Elton John‘s “Candle in the Wind 1997,” previously certified 11x Platinum. However, it would later be surpassed by another song featuring Bieber, but we’ll discuss that shortly.

When “What Do You Mean?”-the first single from Justin Bieber’s fourth album Purpose-reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2015, it was a milestone for the singer. At just 21 years old, the popularity of this dance-influenced song made Bieber the youngest male artist to ever start a song at the top of the charts.

Following a somewhat difficult experience hosting Saturday Night Live two years prior, Bieber willingly became the target of jokes at the 2015 Comedy Central Roast. As the youngest celebrity ever to be roasted, he proved to be a ratings success. The broadcast ranks as the third most-watched roast in history, falling just behind Jeff Foxworthy in 2003 and Charlie Sheen in 2011.

In 2017, Justin Bieber collaborated on a remix of Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee‘s “Despacito,” which significantly boosted the song’s popularity and helped it reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. This was a historic moment, as it marked the first time in over 20 years that a song mostly sung in Spanish topped the U.S. charts, following the success of Los del Rio‘s 1996 song “Macarena.” “Despacito” stayed at No. 1 for 16 weeks, matching the record previously held by Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men‘s “One Sweet Day.” (That record was later broken in 2019 by Lil Nas X‘s “Old Town Road.”) The song also made history by becoming the first Latin song to earn a diamond certification from the RIAA, and it eventually surpassed “Baby” as the best-selling single of all time in the U.S.

“Despacito” also allowed Bieber to achieve a historic feat. Just one week after his song with DJ Khaled, “I’m the One,” also reached the top of the charts, he became the first artist ever to have new songs reach No. 1 in consecutive weeks. The song has sold over 13 million copies, according to the RIAA.

Expanding beyond music, Justin Bieber started the clothing line Drew House in 2019 with his friend and former stylist Ryan Good and designer Gianpiero D’Alessandro. The line features items like t-shirts, hats, coats, and stickers, often decorated with a yellow smiley face or the name “drew.” Bieber later moved on from Drew House in 2025, creating Skylrk instead.

Starting in January 2020, Justin Bieber-known as the Biebs-launched a 10-part documentary series on YouTube called Justin Bieber: Seasons. The first episode quickly became the most-watched premiere ever, gaining over 32 million views in its debut week. The series offered a detailed and personal look into the performer’s life, covering his struggles with both physical and mental health, as well as his fight against drug addiction. Bieber was not only the star of the show, but also served as an executive producer.

When Changes, Justin Bieber’s fifth studio album, came out in early 2020, it immediately reached the top of the Billboard 200 chart. Including remix albums like Never Say Never: The Remixes and Believe Acoustic, this made Changes Bieber’s seventh album to reach No. 1, making him the youngest solo artist to achieve this in the U.S. Later, Justice spent two weeks at No. 1, surpassing his previous record.

We’re pretty sure that if you asked Justin Bieber, none of his accomplishments over the past decade would compare to his relationship with his wife, Hailey Baldwin. After an on-again, off-again relationship with Selena Gomez, he began dating the model in 2015. While they briefly separated in 2016 and he and Gomez tried to rekindle their romance, Bieber and Baldwin got back together in May 2018 and quickly became engaged. They had a simple civil ceremony that September, followed by a large, elaborate wedding exactly a year later.

In a February 2020 interview with Zane Lowe at Apple Music, he shared, “I truly have the best wife in the world. She’s incredibly supportive, and I feel so lucky to be her husband.”

And in 2024, two became three when the couple welcomed their son Jack Blues

Justin Bieber’s latest album, Justice, reached the top of the charts in ten different countries. This was his eighth album to hit No. 1, if you’re keeping track! At only 27 years old, he became the youngest solo artist to have eight albums reach the top spot in the U.S. However, that wasn’t the only achievement for the singer. With the song “Peaches,” Bieber was the first male solo artist to simultaneously debut at No. 1 on both the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard 200 charts.

During an appearance on The Zach Sang Show, Bieber explained that his aim with the album was “to inspire, to uplift, and to bring happiness to people during this difficult time.” It was obviously well-received by listeners all over the world.
