K-Pop Demon Hunters 2 under way as Golden songwriter gives exciting update

Netflix’s animated movie, K-Pop Demon Hunters, became a massive hit in the summer of 2025, quickly becoming the most-streamed film ever on the platform.

The movie has been nominated for two Academy Awards: Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for its popular song, “Golden.” Not surprisingly, a sequel is already in the works and was announced late last year.

We won’t see the sequel until 2029, but the talented songwriter recently shared some encouraging news about how it’s coming along.

Mark Sonnenblick told BBC Newsbeat that the movie is still being developed, but writing new songs for it hasn’t started yet.

We’ll be doing a lot of planning before we actually start writing the music,” he said. “The songs will come from the story, but only if we all agree it’s the right thing to do.

The first movie centers around Huntrix, a K-pop girl group with a secret life: they’re powerful demon hunters. Their latest mission? Taking down their competition, the Saja Boys, a rival boy band.

We don’t know what’s next for their story, but we’ll be watching for news. It looks very likely that Arden Cho, May Hong, and Ji-young Yoo will return to voice the characters of Huntrix.

The film and its popular songs, including “Soda Pop” and “Your Idol,” have been a massive success, and Sonnenblick expressed gratitude to the devoted fans who made it all possible.

He explained that the song almost wasn’t recognized. The nomination only occurred because fans enjoyed it and encouraged others to see the movie.
