Everyone agrees that K-Pop Demon Hunters was a massive animated hit in 2025. Although it first appeared on Netflix, the story of Rumi, Zoey, and Mira quickly became too popular to stay streaming-only, and it eventually played in theaters. The sing-along showings sold out, so it’s no surprise Netflix is fully supporting this Sony Pictures Animation film. While a sequel is still a ways off, a new animated short has been released as a thank you to fans for making the movie such a success this year.
Though the second K-Pop Demon Hunters movie isn’t due until 2029, fans can expect to see Mira, Zoey, and Rumi in action much sooner. The characters recently returned thanks to Sony Animation’s annual Spotify Wrapped video, offering a short thank-you message to their followers. While the animated Netflix film has become a hit, its music may be even more popular. Tracks like “Golden,” “Takedown,” “Your Idol,” and “What It Sounds Like” have already racked up millions of streams on Spotify, and their popularity continues to grow. You can watch the special message from HUNTR/X below.
K-Pop is King

Although a sequel to K-Pop Demon Hunters is still a ways off, Netflix has big plans for the characters. After the film’s surprising success, sources say Netflix considers it their equivalent to Disney’s Frozen and wants to build on the story. While nothing is official yet, there’s talk of a TV show, a live-action remake, and other potential projects.
Earlier this year, the director of the film, Chris Appelhans, discussed the possibility of sequels and future storylines. He explained that the first film intentionally didn’t reveal the full origins of the characters or how they became demon hunters. The filmmakers wanted to introduce a completely new concept and explore the individual backstories of the girls – how they were chosen and what their journey was like – but there simply wasn’t enough time in one movie. They focused on the most essential information for this first story, leaving room to reveal more in future installments.
Applehans explained that they deliberately left some aspects of this world unexplored in the initial film. They received many requests to show certain things, but consistently decided those details weren’t crucial to the story they were telling in that particular movie, leaving room to potentially explore them later.
