Kagurabachi Creator Breaks Silence on New Anime With Big Naruto Shout Out

The popular manga series Kagurabachi is getting an anime adaptation next year! To celebrate, the series’ creator gave a special shout-out to Naruto, a major inspiration for the manga. Kagurabachi began appearing in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 2023, and fans immediately started hoping for an anime. Creator Takeru Hokazono has mentioned being inspired by series like Naruto and John Wick, and now, with the anime announcement, it feels like things have come full circle.

Takeru Hokazono, the creator of Kagurabachi, recently announced the new anime adaptation at Shueisha’s Jump Press event. He also gave a nod to Naruto, as the anime’s director previously worked on the famous fight between Rock Lee and Gaara. To celebrate the announcement, Hokazono shared a special new sketch, which you can see below.

Kagurabachi Creator Breaks Silence on New Anime

Hokazono started by referencing the famous fight between Rock Lee and Gaara in Naruto, coinciding with the anime announcement for Kagurabachi. He praised the anime adaptation of that fight, noting how impressive it was compared to the manga version, and revealed that the director of Kagurabachi actually animated that iconic Naruto scene. He expressed excitement about the talented staff, who are all very familiar with the source material, and believes the anime will be fantastic. This is especially meaningful because the creator has often talked about how much Naruto influenced his work.

Hokazono has often expressed their love for the series Naruto, and Masashi Kishimoto, the creator of Naruto, has shown support for the early volumes of Kagurabachi. Now, with Tetsuya Takeuchi – a director known for his work on Naruto – leading the new Kagurabachi anime, fans can expect a touch of that Naruto style. It’s surely rewarding for Hokazono to see this influence come to life in the animation, and it’s likely to generate even more excitement among fans.

Kagurabachi Anime Confirmed for April 2027 Release

The anime Kagurabachi is planned to premiere in Japan in April 2027 as part of the spring lineup. However, there’s no news yet about when it will be available outside of Japan. Tetsuya Takeuchi is directing the anime, with Keigo Sasaki handling the character designs. Taihi Kimura will voice the main character, Chihiro Rokuhira, and we can expect more announcements about the cast and crew later this year.

Director Takeuchi expressed his excitement about working on the new anime, saying he never imagined he’d be leading a popular Shonen Jump series after starting his career as a key animator on Naruto. He described Kagurabachi as a series full of swords, compelling characters, and dramatic moments, and promised to capture all of these elements in the adaptation. He wants to create a show that will appeal to both existing manga fans and newcomers, but admits he feels a lot of pressure to deliver.
