Kagurabachi Creator to Make Rare Appearance Stoking Anime Hopes

Over the past few years, Kagurabachi has undeniably emerged as one of Shonen Jump’s most promising new series, swiftly garnering immense popularity following its release in September 2023. With the upcoming absence of heavyweights like My Hero Academia and Jujutsu Kaisen, it appears that Kagurabachi is poised to become a cornerstone of Shonen Jump.

However, amidst all the excitement, fans are eagerly awaiting news about an anime adaptation for this series, and it seems that Anime NYC might just be the event where we finally receive some positive updates.

A recent post by @animenyc shared that the creator of Kagurabachi, Takeru Hokazono, will be attending Anime NYC this year (from August 22nd to 25th). Although specifics about his panel haven’t been revealed yet, his presence at Anime NYC could suggest an official anime announcement may be made during the convention. Given that it has been close to two years since the manga was serialized and there are more than 80 chapters available for adaptation, a Kagurabachi anime is long overdue, especially considering numerous rumors of an adaptation have circulated since last July.

Starting from Issue 42 of “Weekly Shonen Jump,” which will be available for purchase on September 19, 2023, the author’s debut serial work titled “Kagurabachi” will also be published on MANGA Plus, a global platform by SHUEISHA, excluding Japan, China, and Korea, for readers to enjoy.

Despite no news about Kagurabachi’s anime progress from Anime Japan and Anime Expo 2025, there’s reason to be optimistic about Anime NYC this year. Hokazono’s upcoming appearance suggests a possibility. Over the past year, signs have pointed towards a potential anime adaptation for Kagurabachi. This started with Shueisha filing a trademark for the series in the Entertainment category at the end of 2023. Then, Toyo Kezai reported in December 2024 that CyGamesPictures and Shochiku would be producing an anime for Kagurabachi. Given that CyGamesPictures recently premiered The Summer Hikaru Died on Netflix, if this news is accurate, it indicates high-quality standards we can expect from Kagurabachi’s anime.

It’s worth noting that Netflix has hinted at an anime adaptation for “Kagurabachi” in the past, fueling fans’ excitement even more. As of May 2025, there are over 2 million copies of the series in circulation, making it a strong contender for an anime adaptation. Here’s hoping we get confirmation soon! This dark fantasy series has the potential to be the next big anime sensation, especially with fans eagerly anticipating new installments of popular series like “Jujutsu Kaisen” and “Demon Slayer”.
