The popular manga series Kaiju No. 8 surprised many fans by concluding its run last year. After starting in 2020, the story of Kafka Hibino—a man who fights monsters while becoming one himself—ran for five years. Now, Production I.G., the studio behind the anime adaptation, has announced it’s creating a final season of the TV show. But fans won’t have to say goodbye completely, as a new anime project related to the series is already being developed.
Production I.G announced a new anime short film called “Kaiju No. 8: Narumi’s Week at Work.” It’s based on the spin-off manga, Kaiju No. 8 Relax, which began in 2024 and is still being released even after the main Kaiju No. 8 story ended. The spin-off focuses on Gen Narumi, the captain of the Defense Force’s 1st Unit, who is known as Japan’s strongest anti-kaiju fighter. Despite his incredible power, he’s a bit of a slacker – he skips meetings, avoids paperwork, and loves to play video games. The short film will show what his everyday life is really like, and promises some unexpected challenges. Production I.G is also animating this special. You can see a first look image below.

Kaiju No. 8’s Future Past The Finale

Currently, Production I.G hasn’t announced the release date for the final season of Kaiju No. 8, but 2026 is a possible timeframe. Before the season airs, fans in Japan can experience a special Kaiju No. 8 event this October. Called the Kaiju No. 8 Defense Team Boot Camp, it’s happening on October 24th and will be a celebration of Kafka’s story brought to life in animation, as described by Production I.G.
Fans of the anime Kaiju No. 8 have a special event to look forward to! Called “Defense Force Boot Camp in Tachikawa,” it will be held in Tachikawa, the city where the anime’s 3rd unit is based. The event will feature appearances and content from the voice actors who bring the characters to life, including Katsuya Fukunishi (Kafka Hibino/Kaiju No. 8), Asami Seto (Mina Ashiro), Wataru Kato (Reno Ichikawa), Fairouz Ai (Kikoru Shinomiya), Kengo Kawanishi (Soshiro Hoshina), Yuki Shin (Iharu Furuhashi), Koki Uchiyama (Gen Narumi), and Hiroki Yasumoto (Eiji Hasegawa). While the creator, Naoya Matsumoto, hasn’t announced any plans for a second season yet, Kaiju No. 8 is already making a big impact on the world of Shonen Jump and won’t be easily forgotten.
