Kaley Cuoco‘s R-rated comedy from a decade ago is reconnecting with audiences on streaming.
Kaley Cuoco is most famous for her role as Penny on the long-running CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory, where she was the only female series regular for all 12 seasons. Since then, she’s taken on more daring roles, moving beyond the constraints of network television. A prime example is her voice work as the main character in the adult animated series Harley Quinn on HBO Max. She’s also starred in similarly bold projects like The Flight Attendant, Role Play, and a 2015 film that’s recently gained popularity through streaming.
The movie The Wedding Ringer stars Josh Gad as Doug Harris, a man who realizes he has no friends when he gets engaged. To solve the problem, he hires Kevin Hart’s character, Bic Mitchum, and his team to pose as his groomsmen, leading to a hilarious and often outrageous wedding. Kaley Cuoco plays Gretchen Palmer, Gad’s fiancée, and the film also features a large supporting cast including Alan Ritchson, Jenifer Lewis, Jorge Garcia, Josh Peck, Whitney Cummings, Joe Namath, Glozell Green, and Cloris Leachman.
According to FlixPatrol, which tracks streaming popularity, The Wedding Ringer was the 11th most-watched movie on HBO Max globally on April 19th. Although it didn’t quite break into the Top 10, it’s notable as one of only three films over five years old currently in the Top 11—a list otherwise dominated by newer HBO Max originals and recent theatrical releases.
In addition to the previously mentioned film, Focus (2015) and Rough Night (2017) have also proven successful despite competing with popular recent releases. These include Finding Harry: The Craft Behind the Magic (2026), Superman (2025), Nobody 2 (2025), American Sweatshop (2025), Anaconda (2025), G20 (2026), Conclave (2024), and The Creator (2023).
Despite not being available for streaming on HBO Max in the United States – a major market for the service – The Wedding Ringer has surprisingly reached the No. 11 spot worldwide. It achieved this by ranking among the top 10 films in 20 countries throughout Central and South America over the last three days, even hitting No. 3 in several, including Mexico, Costa Rica, Bolivia, Colombia, Guatemala, and Venezuela. Currently, the film isn’t available for subscription streaming in the US and can only be rented or purchased digitally.
Despite receiving poor reviews (only 29% on Rotten Tomatoes), Kaley Cuoco’s new movie is performing well on streaming platforms. This shows Cuoco remains a popular attraction for HBO Max, where she’s starred in several projects since The Big Bang Theory, including Harley Quinn, The Flight Attendant, and a new series called How to Survive Without Me, featuring Joshua Jackson and Ray Romano.
