Kate Gosselin is taking her recovery one step at a time.
Just three days after a three-hour operation on her leg – caused by her dog accidentally colliding with her – the Jon & Kate Plus 8 star is now recovering at home. She described the injury as “life-altering” and is focusing on healing.
“Wish me luck, this marks the start of a new phase,” Kate shared in an Oct. 2 TikTok video, announcing her hospital discharge. “It’s really sinking in now – going over the discharge papers, hearing about all my medications, and scheduling all the appointments. There’s a lot to process.” She added, “It’s a lot.”
The 50-year-old added, “It’s a little overwhelming.”
Following her first night back home, the former TLC star expressed her happiness about being “back in my own bed.” However, she mentioned that her current recovery feels similar to when she was pregnant with her 21-year-old sextuplets: Alexis, Hannah, Leah, Aaden, Collin and Joel.
She shared in a TikTok video that her first night back home was wonderful, and she’s realizing how much she needs help. This has reminded her of a time over 21 years ago when she was required to stay in bed on doctor’s orders.”
Kate-also a mother to 24-year-old twins Mady and Cara with her ex-husband, Jon Gosselin-shared, “I honestly didn’t expect to find myself in this situation again, but here I am.”
The Kate Plus Date star shared additional information about what happened before she was injured. She and her boyfriend, Steve, were playing ball with her dog, Meika, at the time.
In a third TikTok video, Kate explained, “I saw her running towards me incredibly fast-it felt like the speed of light.” She continued, “I just thought, ‘I have a split second to move.’ I tried to step out of the way, but I misjudged it and accidentally stepped *into* her path. She then collided with my leg with a lot of force.”
Oh my gosh, I can still *feel* it, you know? She said it was this incredible impact, and she described the sound… it wasn’t like a bone *breaking*, thankfully. It was more of a thud, she said. Just a solid thud. And apparently, she just completely froze and… just fell apart right then and there. It’s just… *I can’t even imagine*.
Following her hospital admission, Kate received a diagnosis of a tibial plateau fracture and was told she required surgery.
She said she’ll continue sharing updates about her surgery soon. “I didn’t realize how much I talk,” she apologized, “sorry for being so long-winded.”

Jamie Lynn Spears‘ daughter, Maddie Aldridge, who was 8 years old at the time, was riding an ATV in February 2017. She accidentally crashed it into a pond close to their home in Louisiana, and was underwater for several minutes.
Jamie Lynn remembered that when they finally pulled her daughter from the water, and first responders took over, they feared the worst. On a 2020 episode of Maria Menounos’ Better Together podcast, she said, “We thought we’d lost our daughter.”
Even though the family didn’t know the full extent of her injuries, Maddie was awake and able to speak again after just two days. Fortunately, she returned to her everyday life within a few weeks.
Jamie Lynn shared, “God gave me the blessing of having my daughter return to me,” adding, “I experienced the pain of losing her, and then the joy of getting her back.”
Filming with Rebel Wilson and Anna Camp on their 2025 action comedy Bride Hard took an unexpected turn during Rebel’s last day of shooting her role as a spy. Rebel told Access Hollywood in an interview from June 2025, “During a fight scene, a prop gun accidentally hit my face. It was a complete accident, and it split my nose open, so I had to leave the set. It was my final night of filming, and I just thought, ‘What are the chances of that happening?'”
Lying in a pool of her own blood, she said she was terrified. “They needed to call an ambulance and a plastic surgeon,” she explained about the 2023 incident. “If they hadn’t, I could have been permanently scarred. Thankfully, the plastic surgeon came and did all the stitches, and now you can’t even tell it happened.”
Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon had a scary accident at home, nearly losing a finger. He tripped and fell, and while trying to brace himself on the counter, his ring caught and partially dislocated his finger.
He explained the injury was a “ring avulsion,” and it required a 10-day hospital stay while doctors tried to save his finger from amputation.
In June 2025, Zane Wach, a seasoned hiker and athlete who also participates in long-distance running, swimming, and triathlons, almost succumbed to altitude sickness while hiking Mount Whitney in California with his father, Ryan Wach.
The 14-year-old began having hallucinations, Ryan told SFGATE. He was aware that what he was seeing wasn’t real. He described seeing things such as snowmen and Kermit the Frog.
Ryan repeatedly stopped his teenage son from stepping off the cliff while they were hiking back down the trail. “He wasn’t thinking clearly, and we still aren’t sure why,” the father explained. “I think it was likely a mix of being very tired, not enough sleep, possibly being dehydrated, and continuing effects from altitude sickness. Basically, he began to question what was real.”
After two failed attempts, Ryan couldn’t reach Zane in time, and helplessly watched his son fall approximately 120 feet from the cliff. They waited six hours for a helicopter from Inyo County Search & Rescue to arrive and transport Zane to Southern Inyo Hospital in Lone Pine, where he was initially stabilized before being moved to a specialized pediatric trauma center in Las Vegas. Doctors put Zane into a medically induced coma, but he eventually started breathing independently.
“Ultimately, it’s going to be a story of overcoming incredible challenges,” Ryan explained, referring to his teenager who sustained a head injury, as well as a broken finger, ankle, and fractured pelvis. “However, we’re still going through it at the moment.”
On January 1st, 2023, Avengers star Jeremy Renner was helping a truck that was stuck in the snow near his Lake Tahoe home by using a snowplow. After getting out of the snowplow, he attempted to prevent it from hitting his nephew and was unfortunately pulled under the vehicle, resulting in 38 broken bones.
Lying on the ice, my heartbeat slowed, and right then, on that New Year’s Day, without my daughter, sisters, friends, father, or mother knowing, I simply grew exhausted,” he explained in his 2025 memoir My Next Breath. “After roughly thirty minutes of manually breathing while on the ice-a struggle similar to doing ten to twenty push-ups every minute for half an hour… that’s when I passed away.”
Despite suffering broken bones, significant blood loss, and the danger of dangerously low body temperature, “I know I died-in fact, I’m certain of it,” he wrote. “The paramedics said my heart rate had dropped to 18 beats per minute when they arrived, and at that rate, you’re essentially deceased.
TikTok creator Emilie Kiser and her husband, Brady Kiser, experienced a heartbreaking event when their 3-year-old son, Trigg Kiser, accidentally fell into their swimming pool at their home in Arizona in May 2025.
According to USA Today, the Chandler Police Department reported that officers were called to a home on May 12th regarding a child who had been found unresponsive after being pulled from a backyard pool. Police and firefighters both attempted CPR at the scene before transporting the child, Trigg, to Chandler Regional Hospital. Unfortunately, the toddler passed away six days later.
Emilie subsequently took legal action against Maricopa County government agencies, asking the court to prevent the disclosure of information about his death. The lawsuit explained, “Emilie is doing everything she can to support her young son, two-month-old Theodore,” and added, “Each day is incredibly difficult for her.”
A family trip to Thailand became “the worst 10 days” of Dr. Cara Hodgson‘s life when she received an electric shock from power lines in December 2023. After losing consciousness and being taken to the emergency room, the social media personality spent the following week and a half “in and out of hospitals, working to recover my strength and fighting for my life,” she explained in an Instagram post on New Year’s Day. “I am so fortunate to still be here.”
Therefore, the orthodontist discovered a renewed appreciation for life even while dealing with discomfort. Cara explained that the experience reminded her – and all of us – of something important when we get bogged down in daily worries: “What a precious gift it is to be alive!” She continued, “Simply being able to breathe, eat, speak, and move your body is truly wonderful and deserves to be cherished.”
A sad event took place in June 2025 when Brazilian tourist Juliana Marins fell while hiking on Mount Rinjani, an active volcano in Indonesia. She fell from a cliff-but not *into* the volcano itself. According to a statement from the Brazilian government, a team of 48 people searched for her for four days, facing difficult conditions including bad weather, rough terrain, and poor visibility. Sadly, they eventually found Juliana’s body.
According to a family update shared on Instagram, the rescue team finally reached Juliana Marins. The post sadly confirmed that she had passed away. The family expressed their deep gratitude for all the prayers, kind messages, and support they received during this difficult time.
In 2015, Tori Spelling, known for her role in Beverly Hills, 90210, had an accident while at an Easter brunch at Benihana, a Japanese restaurant. She fell and burned her right arm on a Hibachi grill. Following skin graft surgery to address the injury, the actress decided to take legal action against the restaurant.
She later shared on a 2024 episode of her and Jennie Garth‘s podcast 9021OMG that she received a skin graft taken from her leg. “It’s not every day someone can say, ‘I’m wearing my thigh on my arm,’ and I’m serious,” she explained. “I essentially have a thin layer of skin from my thigh covering my arm because the burn was so severe.”
Comedian Tony Knight tragically died in June 2024 while at the Rock&Cars festival in France after being struck by falling tree branches. Joanne Allen, the sister of Tony’s partner, Hayley Wright, shared in a GoFundMe post that he was 54 years old and really enjoying his life. She described him as fit, healthy, happy, and full of potential, noting he was a charismatic, funny, and passionate person.
I was absolutely heartbroken to hear about his passing. He was such a gifted person – seriously, he could turn his hand to anything! As Haley, his longtime love, shared on Instagram, he was incredibly talented and had so many skills. She wrote that there wasn’t anything he couldn’t do. More than that, he was a wonderful friend to so many people and a truly amazing dog dad… but above all, he was her everything, and she knows things will never be the same without him. It’s just devastating. You can read her full post here.
As a lifestyle expert, I was shocked to hear about the terrifying incident that happened at a company celebration in January 2024. It was supposed to be a festive kickoff to Vistex, a Chicago-based software company’s, 25th anniversary. Apparently, CEO Sanjay Shah and president Vishwanath Raju Datla were meant to descend 20 feet in an iron cage onto a stage at their party in India, according to a company official who spoke with The Times of India. Tragically, two wires failed, and the men fell onto the concrete stage instead.
According to the report, Sanjay, 56, died at the hospital from injuries he suffered in the accident. Vishwanath, 52, suffered a serious head injury and sadly died several months afterward.
Orlando Bloom revealed in a 2022 Instagram video with UNICEF that when he was 19, he fell three stories from a window and fractured his spine. He explained that he and some friends were attempting to reach the roof of a three-story building when the drainpipe he was climbing gave way. Despite breaking multiple vertebrae, “I was very fortunate to survive the fall because my spinal cord was still just intact.”
He explained that while he was hospitalized, doctors initially told him he might never walk again. He described this as the start of a difficult and agonizing process of realizing and understanding recurring patterns in his life that had caused several accidents. Ultimately, these patterns led to him breaking his back, an event he characterized as a near-death experience.
After leaving the hospital wearing a back brace and dealing with a lot of physical and emotional pain, he told GQ in 2005, “I immediately started going to parties-still wearing the brace.” He explained that it took a few months for him to understand this was his new reality, and he didn’t want to ruin it.
He explained that the experience has “informed everything in my life.” He continued, “You don’t appreciate things until you nearly lose them. I used to treat roads like racetracks, whether on a motorbike or in a car – it was completely reckless. It wasn’t about trying to look cool; I simply enjoyed the thrill of risk. But I’ve definitely changed and become more relaxed now.”
