Kate Gosselin Shares She’s Walking Again 82 Days After Leg Injury

Kate Gosselin is looking forward to her next steps.

The former star of Jon and Kate Plus 8 announced a significant step forward in her recovery from a serious leg injury she sustained in September – she’s finally able to walk again after her wound healed enough.

She announced in a TikTok video on December 20th, while heading to a doctor’s appointment, that the day had finally arrived. She excitedly shared she could barely contain her happiness.

The patient, a 50-year-old woman who used crutches and walked with a limp, received approval from her doctor to start putting weight on her injured leg. However, she mentioned it would take time before she could fully recover and perform at her best.

She explained that she’ll gradually increase her activity level, starting with 25%, then 50%, 75%, and finally 100%. She won’t be walking normally right away, but she’s looking forward to it.

It took a while, but the mother of eight – including twins Mady and Cara, age 24, and sextuplets Alexis, Hannah, Leah, Aaden, Collin, and Joel, age 21, with her ex-husband Jon Gosselin – was finally able to resume her activities. She had been unable to participate since her dog playfully ran into her leg during a game of fetch.

Kate described how her dog ran incredibly fast after a ball thrown by her boyfriend, Steve Neild. She said it was like being hit by a ‘concrete wall’ because the dog was moving so quickly, and she reacted too slowly.

Following a three-hour surgery, the reality star began a lengthy recovery process, which she compared to her experience carrying her sextuplets.

She shared in a TikTok video that her first night back home was wonderful, but it’s also made her realize how much she needs help. This feeling reminded her of when she was put on bed rest over 21 years ago.

Similar to Kate’s experience, many celebrities have shared their own scary stories. Keep reading to discover more unusual accidents involving famous people…

In February 2017, Jamie Lynn Spears’ daughter, Maddie Aldridge, then eight years old, was riding an ATV near their home in Louisiana when she crashed into a pond. She was underwater for several minutes before being rescued.

Jamie Lynn remembered thinking her daughter had died when she was pulled from the water and first responders took over. She shared this on the 2020 Maria Menounos Better Together podcast.

Although the extent of her injuries was initially unclear, Maddie regained consciousness and was able to speak within two days. She was back to her everyday life just a few weeks later.

Jamie Lynn shared that she feels incredibly fortunate to have her daughter back, after a difficult time where she thought she’d lost her forever. She expressed immense relief and gratitude for their reunion.

During filming of the 2025 action comedy Bride Hard, Rebel Wilson had an unfortunate accident on her last day of shooting. According to an interview with Access Hollywood in June 2025, she was hit in the face with a prop gun during a fight scene. “It was a complete accident and split my nose open,” Wilson explained, adding, “I had to leave the set – it was just really unlucky!”

She described being terrified when she was seriously injured in 2023. She needed an ambulance and a plastic surgeon to repair the damage, as she faced the possibility of permanent scarring. Thankfully, the surgery was successful, and the injury is now barely noticeable.

Jimmy Fallon, the host of The Tonight Show, had a scary accident at home where he tripped and fell. While trying to steady himself, his ring caught on the counter, and he nearly lost a finger.

Doctors hospitalized him for ten days to try and save his finger after he suffered a severe injury—a “ring avulsion”—where the ring caused significant damage.

In June 2025, Zane Wach, a seasoned hiker and multi-sport athlete who competes in running, swimming, and triathlons, almost succumbed to altitude sickness while hiking Mount Whitney in California with his father, Ryan Wach.

Ryan told SFGATE that the 14-year-old began having hallucinations, but was aware they weren’t real. He reported seeing things like snowmen and Kermit the Frog.

Ryan had to repeatedly stop his teenage son from walking off the cliff while they were hiking back down the trail. The father explained that his son seemed to be experiencing a break from reality, and they still aren’t sure why. Ryan believes it was likely a combination of factors, including tiredness, lack of sleep, dehydration, and lingering effects from altitude sickness.

After failing twice, Ryan couldn’t reach Zane, and helplessly watched his son fall about 120 feet from the cliff. It took six hours for a rescue helicopter from Inyo County to arrive and transport Zane to the hospital in Lone Pine, where he was initially stabilized before being moved to a specialized trauma center for children in Las Vegas. Doctors put Zane into a medically induced coma, but thankfully, he eventually started breathing independently.

Ryan described his teenager’s recovery from a severe accident – including a head injury, broken finger, ankle, and fractured pelvis – as a long journey. He said, ‘We’re still going through it, but we expect him to survive and recover.’

On New Year’s Day in 2023, actor Jeremy Renner, known for his role in Avengers, was helping a family member by using a snowplow to free a stuck truck near his Lake Tahoe home. After getting out of the snowplow, it began to roll and he attempted to stop it from hitting his nephew. In the process, he was run over and suffered 38 broken bones.

In his 2025 memoir, My Next Breath, he described lying on the ice on New Year’s Day, his heartbeat slowing. He wrote that after manually breathing for around thirty minutes – a strenuous effort like doing ten to twenty push-ups every minute for half an hour – he simply grew tired and died, unbeknownst to his daughter, sisters, friends, or parents.

Despite suffering broken bones, significant blood loss, and the danger of dangerously low body temperature, he believed he had died. He recalled emergency responders telling him his heart rate had dropped to just 18 beats per minute – a level they considered fatal.

In May 2025, TikTok creator Emilie Kiser and her husband, Brady, experienced every parent’s nightmare when their three-year-old son, Trigg, accidentally fell into their swimming pool at their home in Arizona.

Oh my god, I’ve been following this story and it’s just heartbreaking. Apparently, on May 12th, the Chandler Police Department got a call about a little boy who was pulled out of a pool in someone’s backyard, completely unconscious. They said the police and firefighters immediately tried to revive him with CPR right there, and rushed him to Chandler Regional Hospital. But… it’s just awful… he didn’t make it. He passed away six days later. It’s just so incredibly sad to think about.

Emilie filed a lawsuit asking the court to prevent Maricopa County from releasing details about his death. The lawsuit explained that Emilie is focused on caring for her two-month-old son, Theodore, and is struggling emotionally every day.

Dr. Cara Hodgson described a family vacation to Thailand as “the worst 10 days” of her life after a December 2023 accident where she was shocked by power lines. She lost consciousness and was taken to the emergency room, then spent the next week and a half in and out of hospitals working to recover and save her life, as she shared in an Instagram post on New Year’s Day. She expressed immense gratitude to still be alive.

Despite the discomfort, the orthodontist discovered a renewed appreciation for life. Cara explained that the experience reminded her – and all of us – of something important: simply being alive is a gift. Being able to breathe, eat, speak, and move is something wonderful and deserves to be cherished.

In June 2025, Brazilian tourist Juliana Marins died while hiking on Mount Rinjani, an active volcano in Indonesia. She fell from a cliff, and despite a four-day search by a team of 48 rescuers, her body was only found after being hampered by bad weather and difficult terrain, according to a statement from the Brazilian government. Thankfully, she did not fall into the volcano itself.

Juliana Marins’ family announced on Instagram that rescue teams reached her location today. Sadly, they reported that she did not survive. The family expressed their deep gratitude for all the prayers, kind messages, and support they received.

Oh my gosh, you will NOT believe this! Tori Spelling, like, the Donna Martin, was at Benihana for Easter brunch back in 2015, and she had the worst accident! She tripped and actually burned her arm on the grill – a Hibachi grill, can you imagine?! It was so bad she needed skin grafts! And honestly, I don’t blame her, she totally sued the restaurant after everything she went through. I was so worried when I heard, she’s amazing!

She revealed on her 2024 podcast, 9021OMG (co-hosted with Jennie Garth), that she received a skin graft from her thigh to cover a severe burn on her arm. She jokingly said, ‘Not many people can say they’re wearing their thigh on their arm,’ explaining that a thin layer of skin from her thigh was used for the graft.

Comedian Tony Knight tragically died in June 2024 at the Rock&Cars festival in France when he was struck by falling tree branches. He was 54 years old and enjoying life, according to Joanne Allen, the sister of his partner, Hayley Wright. Allen described Knight as fit, healthy, happy, and full of life, noting his charisma, humor, and passion.

He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. Haley shared on Instagram that he was incredibly talented and could turn his hand to anything. She remembered him as a wonderful friend, a devoted dog owner, and, above all, the love of her life, saying things would never be the same without him.

A company celebration turned disastrous in January 2024. During a party in India to launch the 25th anniversary of Chicago software company Vistex, CEO Sanjay Shah and President Vishwanath Raju Datla were meant to descend in an iron cage onto a stage. However, according to a report in The Times of India, two cables broke, causing the cage to fall and the men to crash onto the concrete stage.

Sanjay, age 56, died at the hospital after the accident, according to reports. Vishwanath, 52, suffered a serious head injury and died several months afterward.

In a 2022 Instagram video with UNICEF, Orlando Bloom revealed that when he was 19, he fell three stories from a window and broke his back. He was attempting to reach a rooftop terrace with friends when the drainpipe he was climbing gave way. Despite fracturing several vertebrae, he was incredibly lucky to survive with his spinal cord still intact.

Let me tell you, going through a major health crisis really forces you to look inward. When I was hospitalized, doctors initially told me I might never walk again – those first four days were incredibly difficult. That was the start of a long process of realizing I’d been repeating certain patterns throughout my life, patterns that actually led to a series of accidents. It all came to a head when I broke my back, and honestly, it was a near-death experience that completely changed my perspective.

After leaving the hospital wearing a back brace and struggling with both physical and emotional pain, he immediately started going out to parties – still wearing the brace, he told GQ in 2005. It took a couple of months for him to understand this was his new reality, and he was determined not to waste it.

He said the experience completely changed his perspective on life. He realized he hadn’t fully appreciated things until he faced a potential loss. He used to be reckless, treating roads like race tracks simply because he enjoyed the thrill of danger. Now, he’s much more relaxed and cautious.
