Katsuhiro Harada Wants to Show Off the Unfinished Tekken X Street Fighter

For a good few years, Tekken X Street Fighter was one of the most talked about topics among gamers.

You might remember that the partnership between Capcom and Bandai Namco led to the creation of Street Fighter X Tekken, a 2D-fighter game that we ourselves appreciated but became entangled in several debates or disputes. This 2D-style fighter was something we enjoyed playing but it also faced numerous controversies.

In the end, it didn’t meet expectations, and Tekken’s unique version of the crossover remained unpublished, even though it was once being worked on diligently. Akuma only appeared as a guest character in Tekken 7, and that represents the closest we’ve come to realizing this collaboration.

Currently, Katsuhiro Harada, head of Tekken, has suggested they may share their team’s advancements on the ongoing project with the public, as discussed with Destructoid.

It’d be great if we could share with everyone the progress we’ve made on Tekken X Street Fighter so far. Given that we’re at about a 30% completion rate, let’s hope for the best!

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but get excited when our beloved Tekken creator, Harada, hints at the possibility of introducing a tag-team mode in future Tekken games, even though he didn’t specifically mention it for Tekken Tag Tournament 3.

He acknowledged that currently, team fighter games such as Marvel vs. Capcom: Fighting Souls are highly popular. However, he also acknowledged that due to the lengthy process of game production, by the time they complete development on a similar project, public tastes might have shifted in another direction.

Our game boasts a greater variety of moves compared to standard 2D fighters. Creating such depth in a 3D game is quite complex. It might be years before we see this evolution, possibly beyond my professional career span. Therefore, it’s something future generations may have the opportunity to address.
