Keanu Reeves‘ latest film is proving popular with audiences, even though critics haven’t been kind to it.
Keanu Reeves first became famous in 1989 with the comedy Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, and has since starred in many blockbuster films. While he made two Bill & Ted movies, he went on to launch the hugely successful The Matrix and John Wick franchises. He’s also appeared in popular ongoing series like Sonic the Hedgehog and Toy Story. His films have earned over $7 billion worldwide, and his latest movie shows he’s also a hit on streaming platforms.
Jonah Hill’s new movie, Outcome, premiered on Apple TV on April 10th and has quickly become popular with viewers. The film features Keanu Reeves as an actor in recovery who’s being blackmailed, and boasts a large cast including Hill himself, Matt Bomer, Cameron Diaz, David Spade, Laverne Cox, Kaia Gerber, Susan Lucci, Drew Barrymore, and Martin Scorsese. Despite its popularity, critics haven’t been kind to Outcome; it currently has a 25% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, making it one of the lowest-rated films in Keanu Reeves’ extensive career of over 50 movies.
Despite just being released, “Outcome” is already proving popular with viewers. According to FlixPatrol, which tracks streaming performance, the Keanu Reeves comedy is currently the most-watched movie on Apple TV globally as of April 11th. It’s quickly become more popular than other big hits, including the Oscar-winning film “F1 The Movie” (now at No. 2) and Apple TV favorites like “The Gorge” (No. 3), “Greyhound” (No. 4), and “Fountain of Youth” (No. 9).
The series Outcome is the most-watched show on Apple TV in every country where it’s available, except for South Korea, where it’s second to F1. It’s been a hit in over 80 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and many others like Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Egypt, France, Germany, India, Japan, and Saudi Arabia.
Currently, several Apple TV movies are still popular weeks after their release – like The Family Plan (No. 5), Highest 2 Lowest (No. 6), The Family Plan 2 (No. 7), Eternity (No. 8), and Argylle (No. 10) which are all in the Top 10. If the new movie Outcome performs similarly, it could become a long-term favorite for viewers at home.
Although this darkly comedic film starring Keanu Reeves doesn’t immediately suggest a follow-up, its success might lead to similar movies being made for the streaming platform. It could also mean Reeves will appear in more projects for the streamer, following their pattern of working with big names repeatedly – like Tom Hanks (in Greyhound and Finch), Jason Momoa (Chief of War and See), and Seth Rogen (Platonic and The Studio).
