Keith Urban Avoided Nicole Kidman Marriage Praise Before Split

Keith Urban isn’t interested in talking about someone like Nicole Kidman.

As a long-time fan, it was really upsetting to see that old interview with the singer on On Air With Ryan Seacrest resurface. It was a bit awkward even back then, focusing on their relationship, and now, after the Oscar winner filed for divorce after 19 years, it just feels even more poignant. It’s so sad to see things end after all that time.

Following Ryan Seacrest‘s comment on the July 22nd broadcast of his radio program that Nicole seems to be involved in many projects, Keith playfully remarked, “She’s nearly as busy as you are. Not quite, but she’s getting there.”

Beyond being the well-known face of AMC, she’s recently appeared in a number of projects. These include A Family Affair, Babygirl, The Perfect Couple, the soon-to-be-released Practical Magic 2, and season three of Big Little Lies.

As the American Idol host kept complimenting Nicole, the “Someone Like You” singer just nodded in agreement. And when the conversation turned to how he and Nicole-parents to daughters Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14-balance work and family life?

“It’s a job, yeah,” the 57-year-old awkwardly added. “Life is in session.”

I was so excited when Ryan started talking about how Keith and Nicole always prioritize each other after 20 years together, but Keith just responded with a simple, “Mhm, yeah.” It was a bit of a funny moment, honestly – he’s so understated!

Nicole, who also has children Bella, age 32, and Connor, 30, with her former husband Tom Cruise, filed for divorce in Nashville on September 30th. Court documents obtained by TopMob News state the separation occurred on the same day.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve been following this case closely. It looks like Keith and Nicole have really put a lot of thought into a solid plan for their children. They both officially signed and had notarized a permanent parenting plan on August 29th and September 6th, according to the documents. The Moulin Rouge! actress, 58, filed for divorce citing “irreconcilable differences,” but they’ve clearly prioritized co-parenting. The agreement states that Sunday and Faith will primarily live with her for 306 days out of the year, with the remaining 59 days spent with their father. (He’ll get the girls for alternating weekends.) It’s good to see them focusing on what’s best for their daughters.

As agreed, Sunday and Faith will spend holidays and extended vacations alternating between each parent’s home. Keith and Nicole-having decided against either parent providing child support-remain dedicated to creating a nurturing atmosphere for their daughters.

According to the court documents, the parents have agreed to maintain a loving, stable, and supportive relationship with their child, despite their divorce. The filing stated, “They will behave with each other and each child so as to provide a loving, stable, consistent and nurturing relationship with the child even though they are divorced.” Specifically, they promise not to speak negatively about each other or each other’s families, and will encourage each child to continue loving both parents and feel at ease within both families. They will actively foster a positive connection between the child and the other parent.

As Keith and Nicole move forward in their relationship, here’s a look at the key dates in their divorce. Keep reading for a detailed breakdown.

Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban quietly separated and began living separately around the start of summer, according to information obtained by TopMob News. Several significant events throughout the summer then contributed to their eventual decision to file for divorce.

His High and Alive World Tour began in Alabama, and he spent the summer touring throughout the U.S., Canada, and Australia.

They were last seen together in public at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 in Nashville, and witnesses reported they were laughing and smiling.

To celebrate their 19th wedding anniversary in June, Kidman shared a picture of her and her husband with the message, “Happy Anniversary Baby.” Urban responded with a heart emoji, but he didn’t make a post himself.

People were surprised when the country singer suddenly stopped an interview after a question about the chemistry between Kidman and Zac Efron in the movie A Family Affair.

A radio host on Australia’s Mix 102.3’s Hayley & Max in the Morning asked, “Considering your wife, Nicole Kidman, is always starring in so many successful movies and TV shows, what does Keith Urban think when he sees her in romantic scenes with younger actors like Zac Efron on TV and radio?”

Suddenly, Urban disappeared from the call.

“He’s no longer connected to Zoom,” a radio employee explained. “It seems his team ended the call, likely because they didn’t want us to bring up that topic.”

His rep didn’t respond to TopMob’s request for comment at the time.

Sources at TopMob News have discovered that the Practical Magic actress has applied for residency in Portugal, and Urban is reportedly planning to do the same.

According to a source familiar with the matter, “Keith couldn’t attend the appointment in Portugal because he’s currently touring the U.S.,” TopMob reports. The source added that being physically present is a requirement for the visa application. He plans to submit his application when his tour schedule allows.”

At the time, the source said both planned to maintain a permanent residence in Nashville as well.

In an interview, the couple’s oldest daughter, Sunday Rose, described how her parents run their household, explaining that they have “two big rules” they always follow.

She explained to Nylon that she faced two main limitations: she couldn’t pursue any fashion-related jobs until she turned 16, and school always had to be her priority. “At first, I didn’t like that rule,” she said, “but now I’m really grateful for it because it helps me stay focused and positive.”

Nicole Kidman posted a glimpse of her summer vacation with her daughters, Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret, but her husband wasn’t featured in the photos she shared on Instagram.

“Summer memories,” the actress wrote. “Now back to school.”

In August, her attorney drafted a Child Support Worksheet as part of a Parenting Plan, which indicated that Kidman and Urban would share custody of their teenage daughters, Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret.

However, the Oscar-winning actor was officially designated as the main parent where the children live. This means the girls spend 306 days each year with their mother and 59 days with their father (Keith Urban will have them every other weekend).

Neither will pay child support, according to the doc obtained by TopMob News.

The parents will maintain a loving, stable, and supportive relationship with their child, even after their divorce, the document stated. They agreed not to criticize each other or anyone in the other parent’s family. Furthermore, they will encourage each child to continue loving both parents and feel at ease within both families.”

Urban finalized their divorce agreement, having it officially notarized in August, according to documents obtained by TopMob News.

The document explained that Kidman planned to file for divorce from him because they had differences they couldn’t resolve. It also noted that neither of them would receive alimony or financial support after the divorce.

The same date, he also signed off on the Parenting Plan.

One week following Urban’s actions, the actress also had the Marital Dissolution Agreement officially notarized and signed the Parenting Plan.

Oh my gosh, you will NOT believe this! Today, a judge actually made a ruling – unless they get an exemption, both of my favorite stars have to complete a mandatory parenting seminar! I saw it first on TopMob News – they got their hands on the official document. I’m seriously hoping they take it seriously, they’re amazing parents already, but extra help never hurts, right?

Even though she had already signed the necessary paperwork, she continued to wear her engagement ring while attending an event at the Academy Museum in Los Angeles.

The split between the couple made news, with TopMob News reporting that they-who began dating in 2005-had ended their relationship privately.

The Big Little Lies actress has formally requested a divorce, stating that they separated on the day she filed the paperwork: September 30, 2025.

The couple’s Marital Dissolution Agreement and Parenting Plan were both officially filed with a Tennessee court on the same day for approval.
