Kelsey Grammer Shares Update on Family Life Since Welcoming Baby No. 8

Shortly after welcoming their son, Christopher, actor Kelsey Grammer and his wife, Kayte Walsh, talked about growing their family.

The family is overjoyed,” the 70-year-old shared with People magazine in a recent interview. “We’re all enjoying ourselves so much – it’s wonderful.”

Kelsey shared that he and his wife of 14 years are thrilled to welcome their fourth child, joining siblings Faith, 12, Gabriel, 10, and James, 8.

The Cheers actor first shared the news that Kayte, 46, had given birth in October.

Kelsey Grammer recently announced the birth of his new son, Christopher, during an appearance on the Pod Meets World podcast. Grammer also has four other children: Spencer (41) with Doreen Alderman, Greer (33) with Barrie Buckner, and Mason (23) and Jude (20) with Camille Grammer. He mentioned the birth happened just a few days ago.

He added, “It just became eight kids.”

Having another child later in life prompted him to think about how he related to his older kids.

I was really touched by what Kelsey shared with People a few months ago. He admitted he hadn’t been as present as he should have been with his older kids, and he’s working on rebuilding those relationships now. It was so heartfelt to hear him say that, no matter what, he’ll always be their dad and that it’s never too late to be there for them. It’s a powerful message, and I admire him for being so honest.

He’s also realized he needs to adjust his parenting approach with his younger children.

Looking back, I realize I should have been more direct and set firmer boundaries with the older group,” he said. “With younger people, I’m generally patient, but I make sure they understand what’s expected of them and how to handle themselves in social settings.

The Emmy-winning actor said he’s advising his younger kids to be discreet and honest.

He explained that he directly encourages students to focus on their work and come prepared. He emphasizes the importance of simply showing up and fulfilling their responsibilities, asking them, ‘What’s your role in life? It’s showing up.’

Kelsey Grammer and dance instructor Doreen Alderman married in 1982 and had a daughter, Spencer Grammer, on October 9, 1983.

Kelsey and Doreen split up soon after their son Spencer was born, though their divorce wasn’t finalized until 1990. Kelsey has since acknowledged he wasn’t the most involved father early on.

In a May 2025 interview with People, Kelsey admitted he hadn’t given enough attention to some of his children, particularly his oldest two. He explained he’s working to reconnect with them now, emphasizing that a parent can always step up and be there for their kids.

 

Spencer was married to James Hesketh, a firefighter, from 2011 to 2017. They have a son named Emmett, who was born in October 2011.

Spencer, an actress and singer famous for her role in Greek and as the voice of Summer in Rick and Morty, achieved a long-held ambition in 2022 when she acted with Kelsey as his daughter in the movie The 12 Days of Christmas Eve.

This was Spencer’s first time acting in a Christmas movie, and it was especially meaningful because he got to do it with his father. He’d always hoped for the chance to work alongside him, he told TopMob News.

In July 2024, she was saddened by the passing of her former stepfather, Dr. Bill Skinner, who had been a constant presence in her life since she was a child, even after her parents divorced.

Spencer shared on Instagram that his father has always been a constant presence in his life, offering unwavering support. “No matter what I needed, he was there,” Spencer wrote. He fondly remembers always being able to rely on his father for a hug, a listening ear, and unconditional belief and support.

Kandace Greer Grammer was born Feb. 15, 1992, to Kelsey and makeup artist Barrie Buckner.

The relationship didn’t last long. The Cheers actor married Leigh-Anne Csuhany in September, but he requested an annulment in 1993, ending the marriage.

Greer said in a 2015 interview with Glamour that she generally had a normal childhood, but she occasionally questioned whether people befriended her for who she was, or because of her father’s fame.

It just came out that Greer, the amazing actress who was on the new Frasier – seriously, she was perfect in it – apparently her dad finally apologized for not being around much when she was growing up. Actress Molly Tarlov recalled attending tapings of the show Frasier when she was about four years old. She knew she was at her dad’s workplace, but didn’t understand he was an actor on television until she was in second grade.

In a 2021 interview with Stage Buddy, Greer shared the best advice her father, also an actor, had given her. He consistently encouraged her to pursue acting because she genuinely loved it, emphasizing the importance of ‘acting for the right reasons.’ He also had an honest conversation with her about the difficulties women face in Hollywood, urging her not to let the negativity affect her. Greer admitted that even now, thinking about that conversation still moves her.

 

Kelsey married Camille Donatacci in 1997, and they had a daughter, Mason Grammer, on October 24, 2001, through a surrogate mother.

When Camille’s marriage ended in 2010, it became a major storyline on the first season of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, where she was one of the original cast members.

Model and Emerson College graduate Mason shared in 2018 that her parents’ difficult divorce strained her relationship with Kelsey, but they’ve since worked through it and are close again.

She told Genlux that it was the most difficult period of her life, and it forced her to mature quickly. With her father largely absent and her mother struggling, she felt she had to take on a parental role for her younger brother. The situation created a lot of tension within the family, and her parents still aren’t speaking to each other, according to Page Six.

Camille, who married David Meyer in 2018, recently had kind words for her ex, telling Page Six that he was a dedicated student. She joked that he likely inherited that trait from his father, as she doesn’t always possess the same level of discipline.

Kelsey and Camille welcomed son Jude Grammer on Aug. 28, 2004, also via surrogate.

Oh my gosh, Jude! He’s so much more reserved than his sisters, which I totally get. But Camille actually said in an interview a few years ago that he dreams of being an actor, just like his dad! It’s the cutest thing ever, and I just know he’s going to be amazing. I’ve been following his family for years, and seeing him potentially follow in his dad’s footsteps just makes my heart melt!

She also mentioned that he’s currently not a fan of having his picture taken and actively avoids the camera. If she manages to get a photo of him, she considers it a real win!

Life moves quickly, doesn’t it? Just two weeks after my divorce from Camille was official, I found love again and married Kayte Walsh on February 25th, 2011. She was a flight attendant, and we just clicked! It was a whirlwind, but a happy one.

Kelsey and Camille Grammer welcomed their daughter, Faith Evangeline Elisa Grammer, on July 13, 2012. They had initially announced they were expecting twins, but sadly, their son passed away shortly after birth.

Five years later, Kelsey opened Faith American Brewery in upstate New York.

Kelsey Gabriel Elias Grammer was born on July 22, 2014. His father announced that he and Kayte were planning to have more children, as they were already enjoying parenthood with two kids.

When his son Gabriel was just five weeks old, Kelsey, who is 25 years older than his wife Kayte, told People magazine that the experience had been amazing and they were already thinking about having another child. He said, ‘As soon as [Gabriel] came out, Kayte and I were going, ‘Yeah, let’s do another one.’’

Allen Kelsey Grammer, the actor, mentioned that he and his family plan to continue a tradition of using their sons’ middle names as their primary names.

Kayte and Kelsey’s family grew again on Nov. 14, 2016, with the birth of son Auden James Grammer.

And the Frasier star’s older kids were all for it.

Greer shared with Entertainment Tonight, just before her brother James was born, that her dad had always dreamed of a large family. She described her parents, Kayte and her dad, as wonderful parents who clearly adore their children, Faith and Gabe. She expressed her excitement for them to welcome another baby into the family.

In 2018, Mason told Closer that Kelsey has become a better father with each child. He shared that while Kelsey was very strict when Mason was growing up, he’s much more laid-back with Mason’s younger siblings, which Mason finds wonderful.

In an October 2025 appearance on the Pod Meets World podcast, Kelsey announced that he and Kayte had recently welcomed their fourth child, bringing their total number of children to eight.

The 70-year-old noted, “It was like three days ago, Christopher that’s just joined the family.”
