Joseph Duggar‘s in-laws are thinking about his alleged victim.
Kendra Duggar’s parents, Paul and Christina Caldwell, have publicly addressed the recent arrest of their son-in-law, Joseph Duggar. Joseph, who married Kendra in 2017, was arrested last month for allegedly sexually abusing a 9-year-old girl during a family trip in 2020. This is the first time the Caldwells have spoken out about the situation.
The Caldwell family released a statement on April 15th expressing their deep sadness and concern regarding the accusations against their son-in-law. They shared their heartbreak for the young girl involved, praising her bravery in coming forward, and affirmed their unwavering support and prayers for her.
Paul and Christina emphasized that the unnamed girl—who is now 14 years old—is their priority.
As a family, my partner and I want everyone to know that our child’s well-being is, and always will be, our absolute top priority. We’re incredibly proud of her – she’s shown such strength in sharing her experiences while still staying true to herself and maintaining her wonderful spirit. It’s a testament to who she is!
The Caldwells offered their support to Kendra and Joseph’s four young children, who ranged in age from 3 to 7. Joseph’s sister-in-law, Anna Duggar, emailed him while he was in jail to say the children had been separated from Kendra after she was accused of child endangerment and false imprisonment, just two days after Joseph was arrested on March 18th.
The Caldwells added that they understand how upsetting this has been for their grandchildren and are continuing to wish them well. They reaffirmed their love for their daughter, Kendra, and the grandchildren.

Throughout her husband’s legal battle, Kendra has remained supportive. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges, and she regularly called him while he was in jail, keeping him updated on things before he was released on $600,000 bail on March 31st.
Even when people are upset with you, remember that they still love you,” the 27-year-old shared in a recording from TopMob News. “Try to remember they care about you, too.
Although she admitted to feeling down, she encouraged the TLC star to remain strong.
She explained over the phone that just thinking about the stairs overwhelms her with emotion, so they’re focusing on getting through each day, and even each moment, as it comes.
Kendra’s parents shared a message of hope, saying that finding strength comes from facing difficult times with positivity. They expressed deep gratitude for the incredible support they’ve received – the prayers, generous donations, time, effort, and kind words from friends and strangers alike – and said it has been a true source of light during a challenging period. They expressed their love and appreciation for everyone who has reached out.

As for Joseph’s family, read on to see what they have said about his arrest.

Joseph Duggar‘s parents broke their silence in a statement on March 30.
A Duggar family spokesperson told Us Weekly that Jim Bob and Michelle are deeply saddened by everything that’s happening. They’re currently concentrating on supporting their family and Kendra and her children as they go through this challenging period.
The spokesperson said the couple is thinking of the victim and asked for privacy during this difficult time. They are grateful for the support and prayers they’ve received.

On March 19th, we were surprised and deeply saddened to hear about the arrest of Jill’s brother, Joseph Duggar. We found out through a friend who sent us a text about news reports detailing his arrest and allegations that he harmed a young girl in 2020. We are shocked and heartbroken by this news.
Derick and Jill, who publicly shared their experiences with the family in the 2023 book Counting the Cost, stated they firmly denounce abuse.

Josh is deeply aware of the damage that false accusations can cause, his lawyer explained to the Daily Mail on March 20. He personally understands how these accusations can ruin someone’s life and how public attention can distort the truth, turning it into a dramatic and untrue story.
As someone who follows these stories closely, it’s heartbreaking to see families navigate such incredibly difficult circumstances. I’ve learned that Joseph’s brother, Josh, who is currently incarcerated, isn’t able to communicate with him often. Despite everything, he’s reportedly sending his love and hoping for Joseph’s strength and well-being during this challenging time. It just highlights how even when relationships are strained, family still cares.

Jana and her husband shared on Instagram that they were devastated to learn about the situation involving her brother, Joseph. They said the news was completely unexpected and that they hadn’t known anything about it beforehand.
We are deeply saddened by the harm done to this child, and we condemn this terrible act. Our thoughts are with the victim, and we hope justice will be served.

I’m absolutely fuming on their behalf! Can you believe it? They just got married this year, 2024, and are completely devastated by what Joseph did. It’s just… unthinkable, honestly. They’re so upset, and I completely understand why. It’s awful!
Like so many of you, this past week has been incredibly difficult for us – we’ve been reeling with shock, confusion, and deep sadness. While we’re heartbroken by the news surrounding my brother, our biggest concern right now isn’t about how this affects us personally. What truly weighs on our hearts is the devastating impact this will have on a child’s life, a life that was shattered by someone who should have been a protector, not a source of harm. It’s just a truly awful situation.
Maddie and I have always cared deeply about protecting those who are vulnerable, and that will never change,” their message continued. “The idea that someone would misuse their power to harass others is truly disgusting.
People requested prayers for the victim, described as courageous, and for Joseph’s family. They noted the heartbreaking impact on his children, who are now without the father and spiritual guide they deserved.

Joy-Anna shared on Instagram on March 26th that she was devastated by the news about her brother. She expressed her sympathy for the victim and said she’s been deeply upset and taking time to cope with the situation.
She added, “I will be taking some much-needed time with my family.”

On the March 25th episode of The Jinger & Jeremy Podcast, Jeremy shared that they had a challenging week as they worked through and prayed about something difficult for the show.
Jinger, who relocated to Los Angeles with Jeremy in 2019, shared that she experienced intense heartbreak this week. She described the pain as devastating, not only for herself but also considering the impact on others, calling it incredibly difficult and painful in many ways.
“It’s incredibly difficult,” she said. “When something like this happens, all you can do is pray for strength and help, because you can’t possibly be ready for such news.”

In a statement to People magazine on March 20, Joseph’s cousin expressed feeling devastated, heartbroken, and furious. They said their immediate concern was for the young victim, who should have been safe, cared for, and surrounded by trustworthy people.
Amy explained she was “utterly shocked to hear about these allegations and Joseph’s arrest.”
I’ve always believed in being honest, taking responsibility for your actions, and keeping children safe, even if that meant disagreeing with my own family. I strongly believe that family relationships shouldn’t automatically guarantee trust or privilege, particularly when children’s well-being is at stake.
