Originally released in two parts, Kill Bill Vol. 1 & 2 is now being re-released as a single film, Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair, as Quentin Tarantino initially envisioned it.
Widely considered his fourth movie, these films grossed over $334 million in theaters. This updated version features some changes and includes previously unreleased footage. In this expanded edition, the cliffhanger ending from Volume 1 and the opening recap from Volume 2 have been removed. A new 7 1/2 minute animated segment has been added, and the film will be available in both 70mm and 35mm formats.
Tarantino explained: “I always envisioned this as a single film-and I’m thrilled to finally share it with fans that way. The ideal viewing experience for Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair is in a movie theater, preferably in Glorious 70mm or 35mm. It’s about seeing all the blood and guts on the big screen, as it was meant to be!”
This re-edited version initially screened in 2011 at Quentin Tarantino’s New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles, but it was then largely unavailable for years, becoming known as a legendary, rarely-seen cut. However, the film returned to theaters this past summer with a special screening of his personal Cannes print-complete with French subtitles-at L.A.’s Vista Theatre, which he also owns. This theatrical run included an intermission between the two parts of the film. It was a highly anticipated and limited engagement.
In a press release, Tarantino explained, “I envisioned and created this as a single film – and I’m thrilled to offer fans the opportunity to experience it that way,”
