In just a few days, we’re almost there – the fourteenth season of “King of the Hill” is about to stream on Netflix! The internet buzzes with theories and guesswork. With many tidbits spilled about the Hill family reappearing in Arlen, Texas, the show’s co-creators have hinted at a character who hasn’t shown up yet in any promo materials. As secrets keep surfacing before Hulu’s revival of the series on August 4th, there are whispers that an estranged Hill family member might make a comeback too!
At the San Diego Comic-Con, co-creator of “King of the Hill,” Greg Daniels, and the new showrunner, Saladin Patterson, were questioned about the potential return of Hank’s brother, Junichiro. In response, Daniels subtly suggested that a comeback for Hank’s sibling could be imminent by saying, “It’s interesting you should mention that.” Later, Patterson elaborated on the significance of the character and hinted at his possible return, stating, “I don’t want to reveal any secrets, but Junichiro is a cherished character for us. If we can produce the episodes we desire in the future, and if fans show their support, there’s a high chance he might reappear. Additionally, if representatives from 20th or Hulu attend Comic-Con Tokyo, that could provide another reason to bring Junichiro back.
Hank’s Long Lost Brother
In case you’d like a reminder about Hank Hill’s long-lost sibling, let’s revisit the background of the show “King of the Hill.” The storyline “Returning Japanese” was first shown in 2002 during the sixth season of this animated series. The Hill family, accompanied by Hank’s cantankerous father Cotton, embark on a journey to Japan. While there, Cotton reconnects with an old love interest and learns that he has a son named Junichiro, around the same age as Hank. Initially taken aback by this revelation, Hank eventually comes to terms with it, and they part ways amicably at the end of their first encounter.
If Junichiro ever reappears in the series, it’s probable that a different voice actor will portray him, as the original actor, David Carradine, who played Hank’s brother, passed away in 2009. Since the end of the original King of the Hill series, they have been open to replacing actors for cherished characters, with Toby Huss stepping into Johnny Hardwick’s shoes as Dale. Therefore, if Junichiro returns, it seems likely a new voice actor would be chosen.
