The classic show “King of the Hill” is returning after a fifteen-year hiatus, and the upcoming Hulu reboot has already begun hinting at Dale Gribble’s first major modern-day conspiracy. One of the key attractions of the original “King of the Hill” series was the friendship between Hank and Dale, a character known for his deep-rooted distrust in the U.S. government as well as various other seemingly spontaneous conspiracies. This aspect is expected to continue in the rebooted show as well.
In the lead-up to Season 14’s premiere on Hulu this summer, the ruler of our hill has unveiled a fresh trailer, and it appears that Dale will embark on his first significant conspiracy in the show. Interestingly, this storyline revolves around soccer and its growing influence over Arlen. In an unexpected twist, Hank finds himself in an unusual position as a soccer coach, while Dale snatches him, possibly believing it’s all part of a more elaborate scheme that hints at something peculiar happening.
Dale’s Got a Problem With Soccer
In the classic “King of the Hill” series, it was frequently depicted that Hank and his companions disliked soccer, as seen in episodes like Season 3’s “Three Coaches and a Bobby.” However, surprisingly, Hank has taken on the role of a soccer coach in one of the latest season’s episodes. This shift may be due to Hank trying to find activities to fill his time now that he’s retired. Given that soccer is played throughout the year, this new job might simply be a reflection of this need for post-retirement engagement. Hank has always struggled with finding fulfilling pastimes outside of work.
In the recently released trailer, Dale’s voice, now provided by Toby Huss, expresses concern that soccer has taken over their town. This worry escalates to the point where he abducts Hank, trying to uncover the truth behind the mysterious events. Given Dale’s history of paranoia, it’s plausible that he suspects Hank is either an alien in disguise or a government agent, a theory hinted at by the board in his basement during the kidnapping scene.

King of the Hill Revival Will Introduce New Dale Voice Actor
In the revival of “King of the Hill,” Johnny Bravo, the voice actor for Dale, recorded some lines before his passing. Mike Judge, one of the creators, confirmed that six episodes of the new season on Hulu will feature Hardwick’s voice. However, future episodes will have Toby Huss voicing Dale instead. Huss was not only a close friend of Hardwick but also worked extensively on the original series with characters like Cotton and Kahn.
During the ATX TV Festival earlier this year, Huss discussed taking over for Johnny’s role, saying, “Johnny was unique and a fantastic person.” He continued, “I’m not trying to imitate Johnny… I suppose I’m aiming to embody him. He created a delightful eccentric character… he had a lot of warmth in his quirks, which is a testament to Johnny. So all I’m striving to do is preserve his Dale-like qualities. We dearly miss our Johnny and it’s heartbreaking that he’s not with us.
