Jalen Brunson is playing defense when it comes to Monica McNutt.
Following a questionable remark by a New York Knicks commentator about Taylor Swift being at Game 4 of the NBA Finals, the team’s point guard addressed her fanbase.
After the Knicks’ championship win on June 13, Brunson addressed Taylor Swift’s fans in an interview with McNutt, saying, “She’s incredibly talented, so let’s be understanding. Everything is okay, I assure you.”
McNutt caused some controversy when she publicly wondered why Taylor Swift was at the basketball game between the Knicks and Spurs on June 10th. The singer attended with her friends, Este and Alana Haim.
During a June 10th broadcast that was later posted online, host McNutt exclaimed, “Is that Taylor Swift? She’s not a Knicks fan! Leave!”
TopMob News previously reached out to the Knicks for comment but did not hear back.
One day later, McNutt addressed the controversy.
I understand everyone’s excited, but I stand by what I said,” she explained to TMZ. “I made a mistake and didn’t realize something at the time. To give some background, I had just finished reporting from celebrity row, and I’ve worked with this organization for five years – I know a lot of the people there, like Ben Stiller and his wife, Christine, as well as Fat Joe. I hadn’t seen the person in question this year or last year.
McNutt confirmed she saw Taylor Swift at a recent basketball game between the Knicks and Cavaliers, but clarified that she believed Swift was there to support her fiancé, Travis Kelce.

It’s clear Travis is a Cavaliers fan,” McNutt added. “I didn’t realize she was also a Knicks fan because she wasn’t wearing any Knicks gear, but good for T-Swift – let’s all come together.
Taylor Swift became a New York fan in 2014, soon after moving to the city. That year, she went to several games and even played basketball with players Carmelo Anthony and Amar’e Stoudemire to celebrate her upcoming album, 1989.
But her love for the team runs even deeper.
She shared that when she was 12 or 13 years old, she sang at halftime during a New York Knicks game at Madison Square Garden. She said this experience gave her a special and wonderful feeling about both the Garden and the Knicks, as they gave her the opportunity to perform at a young age.
