La La Anthony sees a slam dunk win in her son’s future.
Kiyan Anthony recently achieved his first win as a college basketball player. His mother, a former star of Basketball Wives, was there to watch him make his debut for Syracuse on November 4th. He scored 15 points, helping his team beat Binghamton.
As a mom myself, I always love seeing these sweet family moments! La La Anthony recently shared some highlights from her son Kiyan’s basketball game on Instagram, and it was so heartwarming. She posted a clip of Kiyan practicing, and then a fantastic shot he made during the first quarter. It was clearly a special day, and so lovely to see not only La La cheering him on, but also her mom, Carmen Surillo! They even snapped a cute group photo together – talk about a supportive family!
Shouting out Kiyan’s jersey number, she captioned the post, “#7.”
Carmelo Anthony, who retired from the NBA in May 2023 after 19 seasons, showed support for his son, Kiyan, by sharing a video of him scoring on Instagram. He reposted the video and wrote, “See you champ!!!” even though he couldn’t be at the game in person.
Kiyan said his dad also gave him a pep talk before the game. Carmelo himself played at Syracuse from 2002 to 2003, and was part of the team that won their first NCAA championship before he became a famous NBA player.
I was really struck by what Kiyan said after the game. He was so sure the player was watching – he really emphasized that he could tell he was glued to the screen, taking it all in.
La La is incredibly proud of her son for pursuing his dreams and is also thrilled that he’s gaining recognition on social media.
I was able to help him understand it because I knew it well,” the former MTV VJ told People magazine last March. “He’s very calm, humble, and a genuinely good person.”
Just like she’d learned from her time in Hollywood, La La offered him advice on building a successful career after basketball.
She advised ignoring negativity and focusing on what brings you joy. She often reminds him to block out distractions and unimportant opinions, telling him to simply ‘quiet the outside noise.’
