The season finale of Landman reveals big changes are coming in Season 3. Billy Bob Thornton’s character, Tommy Norris, is starting his own oil company and putting his son, Cooper (Jacob Lofland), in charge, effectively taking over Tommy’s previous leadership position. Good news for fans – Paramount+ has already ordered a third season of Landman.
The second-to-last episode of Landman Season 2 sees Cami Miller (Demi Moore) dismiss Tommy from his position as head of her oil company just as M-Tex begins operating its offshore rig. The season finale, Episode 10, shows Tommy using this setback to build a future for his family, ending the season on a hopeful note and hinting at what’s to come.
Tommy Norris Forms His Own Oil Company In Landman Season 2’s Finale
The season finale of Landman sees Tommy Norris taking control of his future by starting his own oil company. He impulsively names it CTT Oil Exploration and Cattle, and receives an $18 million check from Gallino (Andy Garcia) to get it off the ground.
At the end of Landman Season 2, Episode 10, Tommy formally starts his oil company and shares the news with his future team. With Cooper’s help, he brings together Nate, Rebecca, Dale, Boss, King, BR, and his father at Well Six. There, Tommy officially announces the new venture.
Tommy explained to the team how he obtained funding for the Cooper field – a large area of about seven square miles covered by various leases. He shared that all of his son’s wells have been successful and that he’d partnered with Sonrisa Oil Company from Fort Worth to fund further exploration. The agreement is a 50/50 split, and Tommy also clarified that he and his son have their own company.
Cooper Norris Will Be President Of CTT Oil Exploration And Cattle
Tommy is rewarding those who have been loyal to him by giving them positions within his company, which will likely keep them on his side moving forward. He then announces a plan to share 25% of the company’s profits with his employees and introduces the members of his leadership team.
Okay, so Tommy’s really taking the lead on this whole thing. He appointed Nate, a friend from Midland, as the treasurer – smart move having someone with a financial background. Then he chose Rebecca to be COO and legal counsel, which makes total sense given her skills. Dale’s in charge of finding the oil, and Tommy’s dad, TL, is overseeing the actual drilling. And get this – they made Boss, the guy who really knows oil rigs, the head of the crew. Everyone was on board, and that’s how this whole operation got started.
Tommy appointed Cooper as the CEO of the new company, choosing to take a less prominent role as senior vice president. This effectively gives Cooper full control of the oil company, even the power to dismiss Tommy himself. Going forward, Cooper will be the one in charge, succeeding Tommy in the position previously held by Thornton’s character in both installments.
How Landman Season 2’s Finale Sets Up Landman Season 3
The events in “Tragedy and Flies” clearly pave the way for the next phase of the oil industry story, which is expected to begin in early December. Since most of the actors from Landman are now working on Tommy’s new project, it’s likely we’ll see familiar faces return, although specific details about Landman Season 3 remain unknown.
Even Cooper’s fiancé is offered a job at CTT Oil Exploration, with Tommy suggesting she could be their office manager. Moving forward, Tommy’s work in the oil business will be a central focus of the show, keeping most of the characters connected. However, Angela and Ainsley will likely be sidelined.
Now that Cooper is President of CTT Oil Exploration and Cattle, Tommy’s son will have a greater influence on the company’s decisions and projects. It will be interesting to watch Lofland take on a larger leadership role and essentially replace Tommy, as many have expected.
