What happens in the Lanterns trailer?
The trailer for ‘The Lanterns’ formally introduces Green Lanterns Hal Jordan (played by Nathan Fillion) and John Stewart (played by David Pierre) as part of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Universe. The trailer shows Hal teaching John how to be a Green Lantern, but they clash over how things should be done. The trailer hints at a bigger story unfolding, and ends with a playful reference to a Green Lantern who is a squirrel – it’s unclear if this character will actually appear in the series.
The show Lanterns will also star Kelly Macdonald as Kerry, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Garret Dillahunt as William Macon, Ulrich Thomsen as Sinestro, and Jason Ritter as Billy Macon, among others.
The show centers on John Stewart, a new recruit, and Hal Jordan, a seasoned Lantern, as they team up to solve a murder mystery that begins in the American Midwest.
Mundy explained that the show was always intended to be a complex drama, focusing on detailed storytelling and a well-developed world. They aimed to blend suspense and intrigue with genuine, relatable emotions, creating something that feels both classic and true to the original story, as shared by Warner Bros. Discovery.
I’m so excited about ‘The Lanterns’! It’s amazing to see so much talent involved. Damon Lindelof, Stephen King, and Sylvio Tundo co-wrote the first episode, and Tundo is running the show as showrunner. James Hawes directed the first couple of episodes, and other fantastic directors like Stephen Williams, Geeta Vasant Patel, and Alik Sakharov are also on board. Plus, a huge team of producers – including Mundy, Lindelof, James Gunn, Peter Safran, King, Ron Schmidt, and Hawes – are all working together to bring this story to life. It feels like it’s in really good hands!
I’m so excited for what’s coming from the DCU! I just learned that ‘Lanterns’ is scheduled to debut on HBO Max in 2026, and it sounds amazing. Plus, we’ll also get to see ‘Supergirl’ on June 26th, 2026, and ‘Clayface’ on September 11th, 2026 – it’s going to be a fantastic year for DC fans like me!
