Eleventh Hour Games, creators of Last Epoch, have revealed they’ve been taken over by Krafton. The news was shared via a post on the official Last Epoch forums penned by studio founder Judd Cobler. In this announcement, Cobler spoke about the modest origins of the team – initially just a bunch of enthusiasts on Reddit who loved action RPGs and eventually evolved into a dedicated Discord channel named Eleventh Hour.
According to Cobler, the future of Eleventh Hour is now more assured due to Krafton’s acquisition. He also mentioned that this acquisition signifies the start of a new phase for the studio since they released the initial version of Last Epoch in 2024.
Following conversations with numerous strategists and potential collaborators, Krafton has undeniably shown that they are in sync with our objectives and are well-equipped to support us in navigating the significant hurdles we anticipate as a studio. This collaboration will empower us to bring to fruition concepts we’ve merely imagined before, and I eagerly look forward to disclosing more about these at a later time.
Following the takeover, Cobler has mentioned that Eleventh Hour Games intends to expand its development team to generate additional content and enhancements for the game Last Epoch. Yet, he hasn’t disclosed specifics about how this acquisition affects the future content strategies of Last Epoch, although he did mention that Season 3: Beneath Ancient Skies is set to debut on August 21. He also hinted that Season 4 will likely be launched approximately four months later.
Back in 2017, I embarked on an after-hours labor of love, which I shared with fellow ARPG enthusiasts on Reddit. Our common goal was to create ‘The Next Great ARPG.’ With our hearts pounding and eyes glued to our screens, we spent countless hours discussing, debating, and constructing the foundations of this game through Discord, earning us the moniker “Eleventh Hour.”
With a successful Kickstarter campaign under our belts, we dived headfirst into Early Access. Fast forward to 2024, and after years of dedication, sweat, and passion, we proudly unveiled Last Epoch 1.0, marking the culmination of our dream.
The game titled “Last Epoch” can be played for free on your personal computer. For comprehensive information about its 1.0 release, please refer to our detailed review.
This announcement about the acquisition takes place following Krafton’s ongoing legal dispute with the founders of Subnautica developer Unknown Worlds. The lawsuit, focused on a reported $250 million payment that the co-founders say has not been paid by Krafton, further alleges that the publisher intentionally delayed the launch of Subnautica 2.
According to the lawsuit, Krafton actively tried to postpone the launch of Subnautica 2 for several months. This included withdrawing vital promotional materials, failing to honor essential collaborations, and backing out of previously agreed-upon responsibilities related to critical pre-launch duties.
