Lauryn Hill Makes Rare Appearance Alongside Daughter at NYFW 2025

Lauryn Hill is out on the town for one thing, and that thing is fashion.

Grammy Award winner Lauryn Hill made several uncommon public appearances during New York Fashion Week. The 50-year-old singer was accompanied by her daughter, Selah, 26, (with Rohan Marley) as they started their day attending the COS fashion show in Brooklyn on September 14th.

For the outing, Lauryn Hill wore a wool jacket over a high-necked leather shirt from the Autumn/Winter collection, alongside her daughter. She accessorized with a red hat over her braided hair. Her makeup included smoky blue eyeshadow and a deep plum lipstick.

Selah chose a sharp blazer dress from the Autumn/Winter 2025 collection and paired it with dark sunglasses. She sat in the front row alongside Lauryn, as well as actress Jodie Turner-Smith, actor Chris Briney, and Naomi Watts. Selah is the granddaughter of reggae icon Bob Marley.

Lauryn Hill and her daughter Selah turned heads at the KidSuper fashion show in Brooklyn. Lauryn wore a long trench coat over a striped shirt, paired with large sunglasses and a New York Yankees cap. Selah chose a blazer dress, coordinating her colors with her mother’s outfit.

Lauryn Hill appearing at two public events in a row is unusual for the iconic singer, who generally prefers to keep a low profile when she’s not performing.

Lauryn Hill hasn’t been seen much publicly since performing at the Wireless and Essence festivals in July. Before that, in May, she made a rare appearance at the Met Gala, where she stood out in a bright yellow outfit.

Alongside her striking look, Lauryn has spoken before about choosing to live a private life.

She told Rolling Stone in 2021 that while she appreciated certain aspects of fame, there were also downsides. She believes everyone likes being recognized for their hard work, but it’s crucial to maintain a normal life to stay grounded and create meaningful work. She explained that it gets harder to do that when people put celebrities on a pedestal and treat them differently.

Lauryn explained that pedestals aren’t just about praise; they can also represent a way of limiting and controlling someone. She believes achieving stability and clear thinking can be a real struggle for many people.
