League of Legends MMO Gets Promising New Update After Years of Silence

The highly anticipated MMO based on the world of League of Legends recently received some encouraging news. Riot Games first announced the game in 2020, but development faced challenges, leading to a complete restart of the project in 2024. This silence led many to worry the game might be canceled. However, it appears development is still underway and the project hasn’t been abandoned.

Raymond Bartos, a former producer at Blizzard who worked on World of Warcraft, recently announced he’s joined Riot Games. He’s now a Senior Game Producer leading development on the League of Legends MMO. While Bartos didn’t share many details about the game’s progress, his hiring – and other key roles being filled – confirms that the project is still actively in development.

Bartos announced on LinkedIn that he’s thrilled to be joining the team at Riot Games working on their upcoming massively multiplayer online game. He expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to work with such a talented group and is eager to contribute to creating a fantastic MMO experience for players.

The long-awaited League of Legends MMO is still in development, hinting at an exciting future for the franchise. In addition to that, Riot Games released a new League of Legends fighting game, 2XKO, today. Plus, a major update to League of Legends itself is scheduled for 2027, promising a more significant transformation of the game than ever before.

As a huge League of Legends fan, I’m still eagerly waiting for news on the MMO! Right now, Riot hasn’t given us any idea of when it might actually come out, and we haven’t even seen a single glimpse of gameplay. But if things keep going well with development throughout 2026, I’m really hoping they’ll finally show us something awesome before the end of the year. I’m crossing my fingers!
