Sony is currently focusing on Helldivers 2 as its main live-service game, but it has another project in development. The company has partnered with Bad Robot Games, led by Left 4 Dead creator Mike Booth, to create a new co-op shooter for PlayStation 5 and PC.
You might recognize the studio as it’s part of JJ Abrams’ production company. CEO Anna Sweet explained the partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment will help them fully realize their new creative ideas and build a large, immersive world around them.
We’re working with PlayStation to create a really unique and exciting game for players. I’m thrilled to have Mike Booth leading the creative side of things – he’s building a co-op adventure designed to deliver amazing memories with friends.
Christian Svensson, VP at Sony Interactive Entertainment, stated they are very impressed with the team at Bad Robot Games and excited to collaborate with them on the development and release of their new game.
Their distinct creative style and dedication to pushing boundaries in gaming perfectly fit with PlayStation’s goal of creating truly memorable experiences for players. We’re excited for players to explore the world they’ve created.
It’s still unclear exactly what this cooperative shooting game will be like – both in terms of its story and how it will play – but we’ll share more information soon.
Mike Booth is famous for creating the AI Director in the game Left 4 Dead. After Turtle Rock Studios was bought by Valve, he worked at companies like Blizzard, Facebook, and Resolution Games (Demeo). He’s currently the Chief Creative Officer at Bad Robot Games, a position he’s held since December 2020.
Now that this agreement has been made just before The Game Awards on December 11th, we might hear an official announcement around that time. We’ll have to wait and see, so keep an eye out for updates.
