Drew Struzan, the celebrated artist behind many famous movie posters – including several for Star Wars – has died at 78. The news was shared on his official Instagram account, which stated he passed away on Monday, October 13th. The post also mentioned how much joy he found in knowing people loved his work. As of now, the cause of death has not been released.
Born on March 18, 1947, in Oregon City, Oregon, Drew Struzan always had a passion for art, which led him to study at the ArtCenter College of Design in California. Before becoming well-known for his movie poster work, he designed album covers for popular artists like the Beach Boys, Roy Orbison, and Black Sabbath. In the 1970s, he started a company called Pencil Pushers and began creating movie posters. His talent caught the attention of Charles White III, who then hired Struzan to create a poster for the re-release of the original Star Wars film.
Drew Struzan quickly became one of the most sought-after artists in Hollywood thanks to his unique style. He created iconic posters for huge films like *E.T. – the Extra-Terrestrial*, *Back to the Future*, and *Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade*. Although he announced his retirement in 2008 after finishing the artwork for *Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull*, Struzan came back to design posters several times over the next decade, including a special one for *Star Wars: The Force Awakens* and the entire *How to Train Your Dragon* trilogy.
