The 2008 film Taken marked a turning point in Liam Neeson’s career. While he’d appeared in action movies before, such as Darkman, The Dead Pool, and Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, he wasn’t widely known as an action star. Taken changed that, leading to roles in similar films like Unknown, Run All Night, The Commuter, and The Marksman. Several of these were well-received, including The Grey, Non-Stop, A Walk Among the Tombstones, and Cold Pursuit. Others, like Blacklight, Retribution, Absolution, and the Taken sequels, were less memorable.
Honest Thief is a fairly typical, lighthearted movie – enjoyable enough, but not particularly memorable. Despite this, it’s currently performing well on Netflix.
How Well is Honest Thief Doing on Netflix?

In the movie Honest Thief, Liam Neeson stars as Tom Dolan, a career criminal who steals from banks but always avoids hurting anyone. A former Marine, he has a strong moral code. Now that he’s fallen for graduate student Annie Wilkins (Kate Walsh), he’s determined to leave his life of crime behind.
He’s even willing to give back the stolen money, hoping for a lighter sentence and a chance to build a life with Annie. But when he suggests this to the FBI, it backfires, making him an even bigger target. Agents Nivens and Baker see his offer as an opportunity to eliminate their boss and frame Tom for the crime. Realizing that running won’t solve anything, Tom accepts he’ll have to fight his way out of this situation.
From December 8th to 14th, Honest Thief ranked seventh on Netflix’s Top 10 list in the US. It outperformed several other titles, including the new Mean Girls movie, The Cat in the Hat, and A Merry Little Ex-Mas. The films ahead of Honest Thief were Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, My Secret Santa, Jay Kelly, The Covenant (starring Jake Gyllenhaal, and different from the 2006 film of the same name), KPop Demon Hunters, and The Hustle.
The movie Honest Thief resonated more with regular viewers than with critics, and that pattern continues. A major reason for its appeal is the strong connection between Liam Neeson and Kate Walsh. Their believable romance makes the audience want Tom to escape the trouble caused by the corrupt police officers.
