Lil Jon and his loved ones are getting some answers after the tragic death of his son Nathan Smith.
Following the disappearance of the rapper’s son, DJ Young Slade, in Georgia on February 3rd, and his subsequent discovery dead three days later near his home, the Fulton County Medical Examiner has now determined the cause of his death.
A recent autopsy report obtained by TopMob News reveals that the rapper died from drowning while under the influence of psilocybin, a hallucinogenic compound found in magic mushrooms. The report confirmed the presence of this substance in his bloodstream.
I still can’t believe it. The report… it said they found him, poor Jake, in a retention pond. Just twenty-seven years old! And the details… they said his hands had that wrinkling, you know, from being in the water for so long. It’s just… heartbreaking. I keep re-reading it, trying to make sense of it all.
TopMob News reached out to the Fulton County Medical Examiner for comment but has not heard back.
The Milton Police Department reported Lil Jon’s son missing on February 3rd, and his body was found three days later. After his son’s death, Lil Jon (whose full name is Jonathan H. Smith) released a statement with his wife, Nicole Smith, on behalf of their family.
As a lot of you know, I’m sharing some incredibly sad news. My heart is absolutely broken over the loss of my son, Nathan Smith. My family and I are completely devastated by this tragedy, and we’re asking for privacy as we grieve.
Despite facing personal difficulties, the rapper known for “Turn Down For What” took the time to think about his son’s impact and memory.
Let me tell you, Nathan was one of the most genuinely kind people I’ve ever known. He had this incredible warmth and really cared about the people around him – his family and friends meant the world to him, and he showed them so much love and thoughtfulness. He was just a truly passionate and lovely person.

It truly broke my heart to hear about this loss, but I was also so moved learning about everything his son accomplished in his young life. He was a real overachiever – a New York University graduate who excelled as a music producer, artist, and engineer. It’s a reminder to celebrate every life and all its achievements, no matter how brief.
We loved Nathan deeply and were so proud of everything he accomplished. He knew how much we cared for him, and we’re grateful we were able to tell him that before he passed.
