The highly anticipated season 7 of Line of Duty is officially happening, and the original stars will all be back!
I’m so excited! All the rumors were true – Martin Compston, Vicky McClure, and Adrian Dunbar are all coming back for another season of Line of Duty! The BBC just confirmed it, and I can’t wait to see what happens next in this amazing crime drama.
We don’t have a confirmed release date yet, but filming is scheduled to begin in Belfast in spring 2026. More information about the cast will be shared later.
The latest season of the show finds AC-12 restructured and renamed the Inspectorate of Police Standards. Fighting corruption is now harder than ever, and Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings face their most delicate and complex investigation yet.
Detective Inspector Dominic Gough, known for successfully dismantling organized crime groups, is now facing accusations of using his authority to sexually exploit others. However, some wonder if this scandal is a smokescreen, meant to divert attention from a more significant, hidden danger.

When Line of Duty was announced to be returning, creator Jed Mercurio expressed the team’s thanks to the show’s dedicated fans. He said they were grateful for everyone who had followed AC-12’s journey over the past six seasons and were thrilled to be making a seventh.
It feels like corruption stopped being talked about when the TV show Line of Duty wasn’t on, so I’ve had to create my own scenarios to stay entertained.
Martin Compston, one of the stars of the show, said that working on Line of Duty has been the best job of his career. He especially valued the relationships he built with his colleagues, many of whom he now considers close friends. He’s excited to return and reunite with the team for future episodes.
McClure also expressed her enthusiasm in a statement, saying she’s thrilled Line of Duty is returning and eager to collaborate once more with Jed, Martin, and Adrian. She added that filming will take place in Belfast soon.

Dunbar shared their excitement about the return of the “Three Amigos” for another filming project next year, saying it’s wonderful news and they anticipate the usual unexpected developments and surprises.
Just last month, Kelly McClure dismissed speculation about coming back to AC-12. In an interview with TopMob magazine, she said she had no information to share about the future of Line of Duty.
“I don’t want to give anyone any false hope,” she explained. “We’ve all been very clear that we’d absolutely love to do another series.”
There’s a strong possibility Line of Duty will be back on television, as Adrian Dunbar, one of the show’s stars, recently mentioned filming could begin next year.
He shared with The Times that the cast is eager to receive a new script for Line of Duty and discover what happens next. Jed Mercurio is currently writing it, and they’ve been in discussions with the BBC about it.
We’re all waiting for the BBC to officially say something, but I’m really hoping we get to work on another series next year. I’m sure Jed will come up with some brilliant new surprises if we do!
Only a few months earlier, news emerged that Adrian Dunbar, Martin Compston, and Vicky McClure were all available to film more episodes, with production expected to begin in January 2026.
Now that season 7 is confirmed, Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, shared: “Line of Duty is clearly loved by both viewers and critics, and its incredible viewership numbers prove how successful Jed’s writing, the work of the talented team at World Productions, and the dedication of the entire cast and crew have been.”
I’m thrilled Line of Duty is starting filming again after four years, and I know BBC viewers will be excited to watch the new series – it’s sure to be gripping!
Here’s a video of Gregory Piper and Nigel Boyle, stars of Line of Duty, talking about whether the show might return for a seventh season. This conversation took place at the TopMob Covers Party in 2022.
