As a huge fan of crime dramas, I have to say you absolutely need to watch Line of Duty before the seventh season finally arrives. It’s one of those shows everyone agrees is brilliant. When people talk about the best TV crime dramas ever, shows like The Wire, The Sopranos, and Breaking Bad always come up – and for good reason. Line of Duty is right up there with them, honestly.
While many crime shows get attention, a few hidden gems deserve recognition. The Shield was revolutionary for its realistic portrayal of police corruption, The Night Of is a brilliantly made murder mystery with a surprising ending, and Line of Duty is considered the best police procedural in the UK.
Line Of Duty Is A Critically Acclaimed But Underrated Police Procedural
Line of Duty is a top-notch police drama. While it’s received fantastic reviews and is incredibly popular in the UK – almost everyone I know loves it – it hasn’t yet gained the same international recognition as shows like Sherlock or Fleabag, though it’s just as deserving of that level of success.
Line of Duty centers on AC-12, a team within a police force dedicated to investigating other police officers. The show is famous for its gripping, lengthy interrogation scenes. Many consider it to be the British equivalent of the American crime drama, The Wire.
The show has been consistently excellent over six seasons, with the only real criticism coming after the identity of the character ‘H’ was revealed – a reveal that divided viewers. However, it’s always difficult for a show to successfully conclude a complex mystery. This slight misstep is easy to forgive considering how consistently brilliant the series has been, especially the first three seasons, which are truly exceptional.
A standout feature of Line of Duty is its revolving door of guest leads each season. The show began with a bang thanks to Lennie James (known from The Walking Dead), and later seasons have showcased fantastic actors like Thandiwe Newton and Stephen Graham. The consistent cast, including Martin Compston and Vicky McClure, are also incredibly talented.
Line Of Duty Has Finally Been Renewed For Season 7 After 4 Years
It’s been a while since new episodes of Line of Duty aired—season 6 wrapped up in 2021. But good news for fans: the BBC has officially announced that season 7 is happening! The new season will have six episodes and could be released as early as 2026. If you’re not caught up, now is a great time to watch the first six seasons.
