Lost Meets From In Apple TV’s New 10-Part Horror Comedy Hit

A new horror comedy series has arrived on Apple TV, and it’s hard not to see similarities to shows like Lost and From. Lost, which ended over fifteen years ago, remains a highly regarded mystery and sci-fi thriller, despite a somewhat disappointing finale. Its impact on television is still felt today.

After Lost ended, lots of new shows tried to recreate its unique blend of mystery and suspense. While many attempted to fill the gap, only a handful, such as From on MGM+, have truly succeeded in creating that same captivating sense of being lost in a puzzle that’s much larger than the people caught within it.

Like the popular show Lost in its prime, MGM+’s From expertly draws viewers into a series of mysteries and keeps them engaged. Apple TV+’s Widow’s Bay, after its first three episodes, appears to be following a similar path, with a setting and themes that echo both From and Lost.

Apple TV’s Widow’s Bay Is Reminiscent Of Both Lost & From

Like the shows Lost and From, Apple TV+’s Widow’s Bay takes place in a remote and secluded location. This setting creates a tense atmosphere where the characters are constantly facing strange and frightening supernatural events. Unlike those other shows, however, the characters in Widow’s Bay are able to leave the island if they choose.

Similar to the shows Lost and From, the characters in Widow’s Bay are trapped on their island by a curse. This curse threatens anyone born there with death if they venture too far from home. The show builds its own unique mythology, drawing inspiration from the supernatural elements found in both Lost and From.

Each episode deepens the show’s unsettling atmosphere by exploring both the eerie local beliefs and the main character’s frightening experiences with the supernatural. Like shows such as Lost and From, it slowly reveals pieces of a larger mystery, keeping viewers intrigued without giving everything away at once.

Like From with its nighttime rules and the significance of its talismans, Widow’s Bay is also starting to build its own set of mysterious rules and secrets early on. Although we haven’t seen the full extent of the dangers in the town yet, it’s clear that something is deeply wrong with it.

While Widow’s Bay is carving out its own distinct style with nods to Stephen King and original supernatural elements, it’s unfair to compare it directly to shows like Lost or From. Still, even after only three episodes, it’s quickly becoming one of the most compelling new horror series available.

Critics are already praising Widow’s Bay, and it currently has a very high score of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Unlike Lost & From, Widow’s Bay Does Not Take Itself Too Seriously

Throughout most of their episodes, both Lost and From are very serious shows that explore supernatural mysteries with a lot of emotion. Widow’s Bay also deals with heavy topics like grief and the longing for home, but it balances those dark themes with moments of humor and wit.

Many horror scenes and jumpscares in the original Apple TV show have a funny side, making them both scary and amusing. Most horror comedies prioritize entertainment with lots of jokes, often at the expense of genuine scares. However, Widow’s Bay is unusual because it successfully balances both horror and comedy, delivering both effectively.

The series expertly blends horror and humor, often making you nervously laugh during its most frightening moments. Although it’s too early to predict the future of Widow’s Bay on Apple TV+, it’s already showing a lot of promise. If it continues to do well, it could become a long-running hit like From and Lost.
