Love Island Contestants’ Most Iconic Word Mix-Ups

Love Island USA offers a mix that appeals to all: passionate relationships, captivating conflicts, and numerous hilarious moments.

On the Peacock dating series, the islanders’ continuous pursuit of love keeps things lively, but their sometimes debatable English usage provides equally amusing moments for spectators.

In a shocking turn of events this month, during the seventh season’s episode, I found myself utterly astounded by Huda Mustafa’s claims against Jeremiah Brown. She boldly stated that he was using her as a fall guy for their troubled relationship, following his date with one of the new arrivals – a bombshell, I might add!

Due to his wonderful date with Iris (or Kendall), and because of their current struggles, she exclaimed to her fellow competitors, “He’s exploiting her as a scapegoat, essentially using her as an excuse, to keep himself in the competition.

24-year-old individual repeated the incorrect use of an idiom following Jeremiah, 25, selecting Iris, 25, instead of himself in a contest, criticizing him for leaving their relationship behind.

The 24-year-old used the idiom wrongly once more, scolding Jeremiah, 25, for picking Iris, 25, over her in a contest, after he moved on from their past romance.

Or simply:
The 24-year-old repeated a misuse of an idiom, berating Jeremiah, 25, for choosing Iris, 25, instead of himself in the competition, following their breakup.

“Enjoy it, your safe option,” she chided. “Your escape goat. Enjoy.”

Afterward, Amaya Espinal shared that she experienced a blend of feelings when the other ladies opted to spare her during the elimination event, leading to Hannah Fields’ departure from the villa.

She mentioned during the June 22 episode that she was feeling sad and also carrying a significant burden of gratitude.”

(The word ‘gratitually’ is not a standard term, so I replaced it with a more common phrase: ‘carrying a significant burden of gratitude’).

Occasionally, even the competitors from America mix up their word choices too.

In addition to Zachariah Noble’s well-known statement that he wasn’t “exaggerating a trivial matter” during season 10 of Love Island U.K. in 2023, George Fensom seemed to unintentionally echo Dua Lipa while pursuing fellow islander Molly Marsh on the same season.

“Typically on the outside,” he said, “I would levitate towards a girl like yourself.”

However, it turned out that the celebrity known for reality TV had a playful side about the blunder, as demonstrated by a TikTok video he shared in June 2023, mocking his mistake. Accompanying the video, he wrote, “I’ve completely lost my cool at this point.
