Love Island USA Drops Season 8 Contestant Over Alleged Use of N-Word

Vasana Montgomery has been asked to leave the villa.

Just days before the premiere of season 8 on June 2nd, Montgomery was removed from the cast of Love Island USA after videos appeared online showing them allegedly using a racial slur. Peacock confirmed the removal to NBC News.

The streaming service confirmed to the media that the videos appearing online weren’t made public until after the actors were announced for the project.

A video shared on social media allegedly shows Montgomery saying a racial slur while playing an arcade game. Another clip appears to show him using the same slur while rapping in a car.

TopMob News and NBC News both tried to get a response from Vasana Montgomery, owner of Vanity by Vasana, but she hasn’t replied to either request.

Montgomery was first announced as a contestant on season 8 of the reality show May 28.

In a preview for the show, she described herself as a complete person, saying, ‘I’m a business owner, I live independently, and I have a dog.’ When asked about her ideal partner, she joked that her friends would need to look all over the world to find someone who fits the bill.

Before introducing the new contestants, the show—which often sparks heated discussions online—posted a message discouraging cyberbullying.

The Villa thrives on positivity, and we want that to extend to our community. We appreciate your thoughts and discussions, but everyone deserves to feel safe and respected here. This is meant to be a fun space, so please be kind, stay positive, and remember – this is Love Island!

I’ve been following Love Island for a while now, and it’s sadly not surprising to see contestants facing issues. It really upset me when Yulissa Escobar had to leave last season after just a couple of episodes. Apparently, old clips from her podcasts surfaced online, and she’d used a really hurtful racial slur. The backlash was intense, and it led to her leaving the show, which was a shame, but it highlighted how seriously we need to take that kind of language.

She publicly apologized on Instagram last June for using a hurtful and offensive racial slur. She explained that she hadn’t understood the word’s painful history or the harm it caused when she used it, and while she didn’t intend to be offensive, she now understands that her intentions don’t justify the negative impact her words had.

Escobar, 28, admitted she was naive at the time but has since worked to learn and improve from the situation.

She explained that she’s grown significantly since then, not just in her communication style, but in her overall presence and how she respects others’ perspectives. She believes growth involves acknowledging past mistakes, even when it’s difficult, and then moving forward with both humility and a willingness to take responsibility.
