Luke Skywalker Bubblegum Card Sells For a Record-Breaking $73,000

With the new movie The Mandalorian & Grogu hitting theaters and reigniting excitement in the Star Wars universe, a rare Luke Skywalker trading card has become a collector’s dream. It recently sold at auction for $73,0072, more than doubling the previous record price for a similar card.

In 1977, Topps Series 1 trading cards were packaged with a piece of pink bubblegum. Heritage Auctions, a Dallas-based auction house, recently described this specific card as being in perfect, or ‘mint,’ condition. This wasn’t the only valuable Star Wars item sold; the auction as a whole brought in an impressive $3,811,584.

What Other Star Wars Items Brought in the Big Money?

The Luke Skywalker bubblegum card wasn’t the only item fetching a high price at the auction. A stunning, 5-foot-long model of the Millennium Falcon sold for $371,629. Built using techniques from the original Industrial Light & Magic studio, it was even displayed at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. This Millennium Falcon model achieved a record sale price for a non-production Star Wars model, which is especially impressive given how much money the auction raised overall.

I was absolutely blown away by some of the recent auction results! Pedro Pascal’s Mandalorian helmet sold for a fantastic $42,471, but it was a Star Wars #1 comic variant that really stole the show, going for an incredible $172,542! Joe Maddalena from Heritage Auctions put it perfectly – the Star Wars collecting world is huge and thriving. He noted everything from classic trading cards, especially those featuring a young Luke Skywalker, to amazing pieces like the Millennium Falcon model, are seeing huge demand. Honestly, even with all the debates fans have, these numbers really prove just how passionate and dedicated the Star Wars community truly is.
