Since the release of ‘Luther: The Fallen Sun’ on Netflix in 2023, Idris Elba and the filmmakers have consistently expressed their desire to make another film in the series.
Recently, things have been quiet regarding the possibility of Idris Elba reprising his role, and fans are still eager to find out if he’ll return.
We have strong evidence suggesting Luther will be back in a new movie soon, and this information comes directly from the character’s creator, Neil Cross.
During an interview with us for *The TopMob Writers’ Room* – our series exploring the minds of screenwriters – Cross discussed the possibility of a return for the character Luther.
Cross strongly suggested a reunion is likely. He joked, “Could I hint any more strongly without getting into trouble? Yes, there’s a very good chance you’ll see him again.”

The film Luther: The Fallen Sun concluded with a suggestion that Luther might join MI5, which opens up numerous possibilities for a future installment.
I was curious if they’d keep *Luther* going with more movies instead of another TV season, and Neil Cross, the creator, basically said yes. He feels like *Luther* really belongs on the big screen now – that’s where the story feels right for the character.
During a conversation for The TopMob Writers’ Room, Cross discussed his previous work on shows like Spooks, Doctor Who, and Hard Sun, as well as his newest project, The Iris Affair – a thrilling new series on Sky starring Niamh Algar and Tom Hollander.
The story centers on Iris, a brilliant and mysterious character played by Algar, and Cameron Beck, an entrepreneur portrayed by Hollander. Together, they attempt to activate a powerful machine that has the potential to change the course of human history.
But once she understands the risk, she steals a journal with the instructions to activate the device and flees. This leads to a pursuit across Italy.
